The latest weather forecast is snow flurries starting at 10a and ~freezing temp at kickoff. No snow predicted during second half. Martin Stadium, capacity 33K, has artificial turf (a good thing or a bad thing?).

Has Stanford ever played a game in the snow before? If they have I can't remember it.
I would assume this favors the Cougs because they are more used to it, but who knows. Maybe it will hamper their passing attack.

According to the SID Alan George, the last time Stanford played a game in the snow was in the 1930s at Columbia. However, the forecast has temps above freezing by kickoff. So may be more sleet than snow - not that this is a good thing.
On this week's TreeCast (Troy Clardy), Todd Husak said rain, snow, and cold don't have as much an impact on a QB as wind does. Thankfully the forecast has winds <10 mph.

Shaw was asked about this in his press conference and shrugged it off.
I would imagine that a turf field would handle weather better than grass, but it's probably up to the specific implementation. It was rainy in 2015 and I don't believe it affected the game much.

Here in Coeur d'Alene, 100 miles from Pullman, it's 30 degrees and has a dusting of wet snow that froze overnight. There is a layer of crusty ice one everything.Â
I don't see WSU having any advantage in the snow since this is the first snow of the year. They haven't played or practiced in this weather this season.

So it's sloppy wet stuff, not dry and powdery?

True, however is there not any benefit to at least some of them from prior seasons, even going back to high school? Really seems like many of our players have never played nor practiced in these conditions. Curious for comments from anyone who has participated in something like this before.Â

I am going to guess that CA is the most represented state on the WSU roster. Even if it's WA, most of those players would be from west of the Cascades, where it rarely snows. I don't see experience with playing in bad weather to be an advantage for either team. Now, the cold weather might make it hard for Love to keep his ankle comfortable. It is going to be taped up really tightly, so his ability to cut is going to be hampered regardless.

THanks--makes sense
Could this be a good day for Scarlett and/or Speights given their more straight-ahead styles versus fast but small defense? All depends on making & hitting holes . . . I want Love to have a great day yet always looking for more contributorsÂ

I played high school football across the border in North Idaho. We played a few games on Friday night with sleet coming down. It was difficult for the receivers, kickoff returns and punt returns to track and catch the ball with sleet hitting your eyes. The cold was not an issue for the players who were on the field. The substitutes and kickers were miserable and cold standing on the sidelines. Difficult for the fans and teams to have as much energy. Could make for a less raucous crowd with the cold and the early start which will limit tailgating time.

I'm really excited about this game already for the obvious reasons (Costello finally getting the nod, Love back to resume his best RB in CFB season, brobdingnagian in conference game), but the bonus possibility of snow really sets this off. Sadly doesn't seem like it will be much, but anything that reminds me of games like Fins-Cowboys in 93 gets me amped for football.

The newer field turf becomes quite slippery with rain or frost, more so then grass. This generally favors the offense as the defense has to react to their movements. With a timing based offense like the air raid may cause some trouble though. There is generally more slipping and sliding then in a grass field, but fewer issues of a plant foot getting stuck and tweaking an ankle or knee

Damn, I haven't snapped on a chin strap for 38 years and I still get butterflies looking at that field just before the battle begins.

How hard would it be for Fox to give us a program note and tell us what they are going to do. Its not as is they dont know of the issue.

The Penn State @ Michigan State game, which is the game before ours on FOX, is in a lightning delay and likely won't start back up until after our game starts. Our game is going to be shown on some other channel that will presumably vary based on location. Apparently they're not doing a good job telling people what channel it will be.
