Awful. Just awful. And starting to play really well again.

How do you take a "severe hit the the throat?"

Re: Henry Anderson - BostonCard - 11-09-2017

The shocking thing is he played the rest of the game.  That is a potentially life-threatening injury!

The crack Colts medical team was on top of it, I'm sure. Thank heavens he's recuperating.

Re: Henry Anderson - phxfan - 11-10-2017

At least it doesn't affect any of his joints and he will be fresh for next season.

Re: Henry Anderson - dabigv13 - 11-10-2017

This is the same sort of injury that SC RB had a few years ago (Stafon Johnson I think). Potentially life threatening. I'm guessing it was not a very severe one or he would not have been able to finish the game. I'm guessing he should be fine next year.

Johnson needed a tracheostomy, something Anderson will likely be able to avoid.

As I recall that was a freak weightlifting accident where he dropped the bar on a bench press right onto his throat and fractured a larynx.

Re: Henry Anderson - gocard14 - 11-10-2017

A laryngeal fracture causing shortness of breath is indeed a potentially life threatening issue. Typically the fracture occurs, and unless it is a severe case where the trauma itself occludes the airway; the bigger issue is the subsequent swelling that can cause respiratory distress. Of course the typical team doctors (sports medicine or orthopedics) are not trained to manage these types of injuries, ENT surgeons are. The appropriate response (if they were made aware of the injury) is that any patient with throat trauma and any respiratory change should be taken to the hospital ASAP.
