Week 11 games of interest -

I know there's been a lot of chatter about Chip Kelly to UCLA -- and obviously as the last guy on Chip Kelly Island I'd find that distressing -- but I kinda feel, watching Iowa State play, that Matt Campbell would be the perfect antidote for UCLA's typical weaknesses.

Can UCLA afford to fire Mora, and can they, after doing that, win a bidding war for Campbell? It seems like UCLA is going to be getting coaching dregs for a while, too many jobs open up every year that are better opportunities. They need to look for the next Harbaugh.

I mean, I kind of assume there's gotta be one egotistical LA billionaire alum who wants to win? Maybe not?

What I've been hearing from fans is that they think the boosters won't be willing to front it. But I have no idea how informed these people are. They also think the AD would botch the hire anyway, which is probably true just from a numbers perspective. How many home-run hires at big schools have flamed out recently? I have a hard time believing UCLA could get it right.

Yeah, the UCLA AD has a pretty darn mediocre hiring record, so I suppose ultimately he'll do something dumb. Which is fine by me, of course. Wouldn't mind UCLA's recruiting cratering like Texas's during the latter part of the Brown and Strong eras.

Not that it affects us materially, but USC vs Colorado is 0-0 and already just into 2Q. Anyone else surprised?

#70 for SoKal seems like a pretty typical thug type for them.

I mean, we'll have to wait for the full game, but SC was favored by two touchdowns. So their struggles would, in isolation, be eyebrow-raising. Then again, with the decided exception of their game against Stanford (and Arizona), they've looked indifferent the entire year. So it's not surprising they're meh again. As has been the pattern since the latter part of the Carroll years, they play really well when they give a sh*t and they only give a sh*t for big games.
