How fitting. Back in 77 and 78 when I was in awe of Walsh I, I heard stories about Pop Warner and thought "no one can ever pass him....the modern era and our elite academic status just won't permit it."
I was wrong. Shaw has figured out a way.

For so long a coach was successful and left for a perceived better opportunity or was unsuccessful and was fired. Shaw has finally changed that.

I think this is a h-ge point that is often missed by Shaw detractors. He's one of the few coaches who enables Stanford to have its cake and eat it too.

Who's he currently tied with? I'm assuming Willigham. Anyone else have 7? Warner? Is there a list somewhere showing Big Game coaching records?

French Rage, Just to clarify, Yvonnes post meant that when Stanford plays Cal on Saturday, Shaw has the opportunity to become Stanfords winningest coach of all time (he is currently tied with Pop Warner for most lifetime wins). Yvonnes Post was not referring to all time Big Game wins

Ahh. I figured since the all-time record was being discussed a lot, she meant specifically in Big Games. Though wouldn't he close or at Big Game wins too? Actually come to think of it I was including him in the entire current streak and Harbaugh was 2010, so I guess he's only at 6, not 7, at the moment.

Looking some more, Warner was only 5-1-3. Ralston was 7-2-0 and Willingham was 7-0-0, so with Shaw currently setting at 6-0-0 he could tie the record this week.

Shaw is tied with Pop Warner for most overall wins as a Stanford head coach with 71.
With a win, Shaw will tie Willingham for most Big Game wins as a Stanford head coach with 7. Pop Warner went 5-1-3 in Big Games with a 7-year unbeaten streak when you include ties.
I don't know of a database that lists just Big Game coaching records, but you can cross-reference the Wikipedia pages for Big Game and for Stanford head coaches:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Game_(American_football)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Stanford_Cardinal_head_football_coaches
I'd also note that ×ÉÉ had an 8-game unbeaten streak (6-0-2) from 1947 to 1954 under Pappy Waldorf who went 7-1-2 overall.
And if it weren't for Harbaugh's freak win his first season (we went 4-8 that year) ×ÉÉ would have won 8 straight under Jeff Tedford.
