"Stanford's Cameron Scarlett has eight kickoff returns of 30 or more yards, most by any Power 5 player."

He actually has pretty good speed. The Ducks supposedly recruited him as a WR.

Pretty amazing considering he hasn't broken one. Watching the UW game Friday, I had a passing nostalgia for for Chris Owusu and of course CMAC. Having a kick/punt returner who can put the fear of special teams gods into the opponent is a great asset. Every time those two guys got their hands on the ball, you knew something special could happen. I don't think the same can be said of Scarlett, but it's good to know that he's at a minimum on the higher end of P5 kick returners.

At the risk of committing bad form and bringing up a what if, too bad he didn't make a move to get around the WSU placekicker on that long return following the WSU TD where their player did an obnoxious back flip into the endzone. Maybe there were other defenders just out of camera view.

IIRC, the commentators mentioned that he was tackled two times by the kicker. If indeed the case, I'm sure he got some grief by his teammates.

Is this why he got ZERO reps at RB, in favor of Speights?
Also, is "wouldn't've" kosher? I totally believe it is, but the two apostrophes are throwing me off.

Scarlett does a good job of finding the open lanes on kickoff returns. But he hasn't displayed the acceleration that we saw from Owusu, Montgomery, or McCaffrey.

Agree, terry, this is my read.
It's a bit puzzling that this is Scarlett's strength: when running the ball on offense, he often seems to lack vision. Not sure why that ability is so come-and-go on offense but consistent on special teams.
