#20 was robbed - BostonCard - 11-13-2017

No, not Bryce Love, who was appropriately chosen as Pac-12 offensive player of the week.  But the other #20, Bobby Okereke was robbed by Hercules.

No offense, but the defensive effort by Okereke against UW, which is much more of an offensive juggernaut than Utah, Mata'afa's opponent.

To be fair, though Mata'afa had one hell of a game and is a hell f a player.

I admittedly only watched the end of the Utah game but Hercules (great football name btw) single handedly dominated and lived in the Backfield in a way reminiscent of another DPOW winner, Harrison Phillips against OSU. Okereke was certainly deserving as well, but may have run into stiff competition this week.

Re: #20 was robbed - Spiny_Norman - 11-13-2017

Mata'afa had 8 tackles including 5 TFLs and 3 sacks plus a forced fumble and a fumble recovery vs Utah.  That's pretty stout.  Any other week Okereke's 10 tackles, 4 TFLs, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble would have earned him the honors.

Re: #20 was robbed - BostonCard - 11-13-2017

As I said, Mata'afa had one hell of a game.  But if you take opponent into account, Okereke had a better night.

UW offense: #2 in scoring (36.9 ppg), #5 in rushing (183 y/g, 4.9 ypc), #1 in PER (154.6; 8.3 ypa, 222 ypg)
Utah offense: #10 in scoring (29 ppg), #8 in rushing (151 y/g, 4.1 ypc), #9 in PER (131.9; 7.5 ypa, 260 ypg)

UW is 3rd in sacks allowed (1.3) and 5th in tackles for loss given up (5.8); they've only lost 5 fumbles all year
Utah is 8th in sacks allowed (2.7) and 8th in tackles for loss given up (6.6); they've lost 10 fumbles so far

#20 coming in second for an award? Who would have thought that.

Herc will be PAC12 DPOTY.

And he would be a worthy contender; leads the conference in sacks and tackles for a loss, the latter a ridiculous 21.5 (next closest is 13).

I just hope Okereke comes back next year. He’s playing at a very high level. Next year he could be an All-American

Re: #20 was robbed - JJJ - 11-13-2017

I hope he comes back too, as do the announcers who really seem to relish saying the name as often as possible (and he's obliging them)!

The Qualcomm Stadium announcer gave him a lot of mentions too.  ;)

I think he kept doing it because he liked saying the name.
