Wilner says Stanford should go "rogue" for H award. -

Some H award humor would be fun. Maybe best if a group other than the Athletic Dept did it so they have deniability. Hmmm....why doesnt the Merc do it? Think of all the publicity for them and Love.
Or maybe a Stanford athletics focused internet board could take the lead ;)

Didn't Jennifer Aniston's character pitch a Gulden's mustard campaign all about second place in 1997's Picture Perfect? Am I the only one that saw that movie? I feel like it was at Flicks my sophomore year.Â
I seem to remember that one of the common storylines in Toby's Heisâman year was the fact that "Alabama had ânever had a Heisâman winner", so some voters felt that they should rectify the history books. It couldn't hurt to raise awareness that Stanford has had so many bridesmaids and no brides in the last decade.Â
I like the idea of poking fun at the whole thing by embracing the second place finish, but I'm always wary of
assuming anything before the final votes come in.

I think that Stanford should attempt to get all of the 2nd place finishers to show up in NYC with Bryce. When Bryce gets named the runner up, they should all do something together to make a point. What should they do?

Heard a great nickname for Stanford's traditional 2nd place finish: the Bridesman.

The idea is good in theory. I don't like Wilner's specific scenarios, though. Someone in the comments suggested a spoof of the Heis.man House television ads featuring Stanford's runner-ups. That one seems pretty good.

Good idea. Avis could sponsor the runner up house. Or maybe a Google building could be the runner up house (since so many Stanford grads are there) and they could sponsor it :)

What if they all dressed up like this? It would take some convincing, sure, but....

Or perhaps it's up to the Band (since Wilner mentioned them)... 8)

They should all wear shirts that say "<H-Word> Love" or "East Coast Bias" and Plunkett should wear one too. Although Plunkett said in 2015 at a Council Lunch that if McCaffrey didn't win he probably wouldn't ever show up again.

I've seen some ugly bridesmaid dresses, but those get the prize. :o

I guess it would be bit too much to include Leroy Keyes driving an Avis rental. (Hint: he came in 2nd in 1968)
It surely sounds like Wilner was throwing down the gauntlet when he wrote
"Its too risky
too risque
too much, frankly, like the Stanford band."

Wilner is on a roll!
Great idea, but I just can't see Stanford going rogue. Both the athletic and academic side of the University are solid citizens rather than disruptors. Long live Schumpeter and the Band!

I think it's perfect for the LSJUMB half time show! They should (with the Admin's blessing) reach out to Avis and do something for the ND game half time show! That game will have national coverage and would poke just the right of amount of fun at the East Coast Bias award. Band members retiring the numbers 7, 12, 5 and 20 would be a great moment. Embrace the Bias and Stiff Arm the Stiff Arm!

This is the first Wilner column I've read in years -- and it actually makes sense! Also, Gerhart and Luck have time on their hands, and this is McCaffrey's bye week so I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up on campus for Big Game. All the pieces will be in place.
My angle would be an intervention. Bryce Love's best friend promises to bring him to the Voldemort House, but when he arrives he discovers it's actually the Voldemort Halfway House. Gathered in a circle are all his closest friends and family, including Gerhart, Luck, and McCaffrey.
Love: Hey, what is this?
Best friend: We're all here because we're concerned about you, Bryce. Some of the things you've been saying and doing have us all concerned...
Love: What do you mean? This isn't the Voldemort House? I thought you said I was getting an early tour, picking out my room, stuff like that.
Gerhart: This is what we mean, Bryce. All this Voldemort talk. It just isn't healthy. You're delusional.
Love: But have you seen my numbers? No running back in the country is close to me. I'm a lock!
McCaffrey: That's exactly what I thought, Bryce. I understand, believe me. I broke a record held by Barry Sanders. Barry freakin' Sanders! I did things no one in the history of the game has done --
and I'm white! But they told me I wasn't a true running back.
Love: But I
am a true running back! That's all I do!
Luck: But this year,
that's a weakness. What you have to understand is that the criteria changes every year. It reminds of a book I'm reading on the Kennedy assassination -- it's a conspiracy, plain and simple, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Love: So what you're saying is..
Best Friend: You can't win.
Love: ...I can't win?
All: You can't win.
Love: Then what do I do?
Luck: You go to New York and pretend you have a chance, then you hope that you're not drafted by a team that will bungle several consecutive drafts, refuse to build an offensive line, and waste the best years of your career.
McCaffrey: You show up at the draft combine and hope they don't misspell your name on your jersey.
Gerhart: You hope that someone in the NFL actually gives you a shot.
Love: But maybe this year...
Gerhart: I carried a team to national prominence and battered every defense I saw.
Luck: I was the best college quarterback in a generation.
McCaffrey: I broke a record most people believed was untouchable.
Love's Grandmother: But don't worry, baby. I knitted you this sweater with a trophy on it. I still think you're the best!
David Shaw: But no one else out there does. It's time you understood that.
Love: Yes, coach. [Turning to camera.] My name is Bryce Love. I am not the best player in America.
Fade to black.

Hank, This is great! Someone needs to do this and put it on YouTube. Or do it as a "secretly recorded conversation" so only audio needed. Or give to Wilner and see if he'll publish it.
Well it's fun dreaming anyway :)

The final line should be "I am the second-best player in America."
