Nice to see it put that way (not that I was worried he was leaving).  8)

If after 7 years he is "not even close to halfway done" then math would dictate that he has a lot more than 8 years left at Stanford.  ;D

Assuming a similar trajectory, quite possibly. But past performance does not guarantee future results.
(If he wins 5 national championships in a row, he might think his work here is done. :P)
(Of course, his kids won't be in Stanford yet, so even then, he'll hopefully stick around.)

If he wins 5 NCs in a row he can do whatever the hell he wants afterwards in my book.

As a Giants fan, nothing would please me more than the Giants snagging Shaw.

But as a Stanford fan, I'm even happier to see him staying around.  Glad to hear this.

Shaw is referred to as "Star college coach" in the headline.

Shaw is a star college coach.

And despite my lamenting of underperforming O, it's evident that Shaw is bright, he "gets" Stanford, and understands what a great gig he has here.  I expect him to coach here at least through his youngest son's graduation, even while I also expect Stanford to revert to range of 8-4 (high) to 5-7 (low, hopefully) for many of the out years.  And Shaw's legacy at Stanford will still be remarkable.

Of course, if Shaw hired an OC who could return that unit to the performance levels of circa 2000; well, Shaw might go down as one of the greatest (if not the greatest) college coach of all time.

Yet, by this standard, Stanford has only had one "out year" in Coach Shaw's first 7 years. And even that year, it took some uncharacteristically bad games (home losses to SC and Utah come to mind), to reach the high end of your range. As such, the prior that represents Coach Shaw's body-of-work doesn't support this theory. I mean, sure, anything could happen, but I will give you a simple reason why I don't think it is likely: under Coach Shaw, Stanford has been fantastic at home (the Card were undefeated and rarely challenged at home this year). As such, a 5-1 or 6-0 home record makes it virtually impossible to record anything less than 8 wins.

I am thrilled by this reinforcement of my expectation that Shaw is our long-term coach!  Like the preponderance of "fans" I will continue to nitpick and second-guess certain things, while celebrating the overall success of the program academically, athletically, and also ethically as we remain focused on the University's mission

Who are you and why have you taken over teejers' account?

teejers got his account back by the second paragraph.

[And let's all pray that whatever OC we end up with, he doesn't take us back to the performance level of the 2000 offense:
2000: 376 yds/gm; 4.94 yds/play; 54% run plays; 76.1 plays/gm; 23.7 pts/gm ]
