AP All-America Team -
Langdude - 12-11-2017
Bryce Love, first team.
Justin Reid, second team.
Harrison Phillips, third team.
Other Pac-12 players:
First Team: WSU DT Hercules Mata'afa, Utah K Matt Gay
Second Team: WSU OT Cody O'Connell, UW AP Dante Pettis
Third Team: USC RB Ronald Jones II, UW DT Vita Vea (grr...), USC CB Jack Jones, Utah P Mitch Wisnowski
Notes:
- So AP also thinks that Vita Vea should not have been Pac-12 DPOY.
- Does Utah have the best kicking game in the history of college football?
- Pac-12 looks pretty sparse here. No WR, no TE, no LBs.
- All the amazing Pac-12 QBs shut out.

Love and Reid make perfect sense. Phillips on third team does not. There are not four better defensive tackles in the country than he is. No way, no how.

Winflop, we may not agree on lots of other issues, but on this point I think you are exactly correct.

Isn't "consensus" when they are on a majority of the teams, and "unanimous" when they are on all of them? I think he's unanimous now that ESPN's is out.

As of when I wrote that, he had been selected to the first three (out of five) AA teams so he had clinched consensus with unanimous still a Possibility

Ah! You were alerting us to the fact he'd reached consensus status! Thanks, BC. Will be shocked if he is not unanimous.

With every new list, do Barkley supporters/Love haters start to realize that there's a different between being the best RB in the country vs. the best AP player? Of course, if Love is the top RB on your team, you would probably rather have UW's Pettis as my AP player to handle PR/KR and act as a back up receiver. Giving Barkley the AP role feels a bit like throwing a bone to a player who didn't meet the early season hype.

I also felt like McCaffrey was slighted by getting all-purpose honors, as if he were a utility infielder or something like that. I think he deserved two slots -- running back AND all-purpose player. I know sometimes there's an urge to spread the wealth, McCaffrey should've gotten "all the awards," to quote David Shaw.

Agreed. With McAffrey, I think it was done from a motivation to "spread the wealth" but in this situation, I really think it's to throw Penn State a bone. Barkley is clearly a mercurial talent. He's just not as good an RB as Love.

Junior human biology major Bryce Love was named All-America first team by The Sporting News on Tuesday while fifth-year senior biomechanical engineering major David Bright earned second-team honors.
The accolade earned Love consensus All-America status, the 37th by a Cardinal.

I have assumed most of the year that this was his last year. But I've been feeling the last few weeks that he may pull an Andrew Luck...
