As coaching carousel ends, pulling offers begins.... - TreesAndBirds - 12-12-2017

In this case Taggart. Dont know anything about the kid, but he planned to enroll in January. In some ways its fair of course, because the kids arent bound, but are they sophisticated enough to plan accordingly? Maybe one advantage of the early signing period is if your offer gets pulled right before you plan to sign, other schools likely still have spaces available for the second signing date.

Wow, that is super, super cr@ppy on Taggert's part. The kid's got less than a month to go before he planned to enroll and now he's got to find a new college? Was he really such a dud that Taggert needed to pull the rug out from under him? Kudos to the assistant coach for breaking the news in the most respectful way possible, but yeesh. Schools should have to forfeit a scholarship spot for behavior like that.

When you find anything about the NCAA that favors the so-called student athletes let me know.

The other side of the coin is that if a new coach comes in and decides he doesn't like a previous commitment and doesn't feel he can play, is it really fair to him to honor it anyway and have him sit on the bench for four years? Better to let the kid know right away and let him find a place that appreciates his talents more.

Monthly salaries and severance checks for players are needed. Should be retro active to 1965.

Totally reasonable (and commendable) to be honest and up front with recruits and tell them "I'm not sure where you fit into our new system, it may be better for you to look elsewhere".  Totally shi**y to pull the offer.
