Here's the nut of the poll:
For each of the following, please say whether you are a fan of that sport or not.
                     '12 '17  Change
Olympic sports         75 63 -12
Professional football    67 57 -10
College football        54 56 +2
Professional baseball    53 51 -2
Professional basketball  37 40  +3
College basketball      40 38 -2
Auto racing           28 32 +4
Professional ice hockey  24 28 +4
Professional soccer     23 28 +5
Subjective commentary on three findings: Olympics -- National gold medal counts mattered to some during the Cold War; now? Also, are sports based on judges (and referees: see 1972 USSR basketball gold, decided by the zebras) really sports? NFL -- Instant replays, introduced in the late 1960s, have degenerated into 130-second hair-splitting "play under review"s and looping hilite reels of brutal hits that concuss and, worse, end careers (tho the stadium always claps when the injured player is carted down the tunnel). Auto racing -- Of course it's gaining, ticketing websites feature pull-down menus helpfully listing nearby trailer parks. In 2017, NASCAR staged races in 18 states, 12 of which electoral-voted GOP in 2016.

Is anyone surprised that Olympic sports would report higher interest in an Olympics year than an off year? That's not a particularly surprising finding. If anything the surprising part there is that both numbers are so high.

One wonders what the "normal" variability of such a poll is, in any case. How your personal NFL team is doing probably alters the answer there a lot.

Right? Olympic sports more popular than the NFL? Seems odd.

The article discusses that the first poll was in an Olympic year.
Not clear to me how they define Olympic sports, but assuming it includes ice skating, skiing, volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, diving, rowing, sailing, etc....I dont think it would be hard to believe a large number of people are fans of at least one of those sports.

A lot depends on the phrasing of the question. I bet a lot of people are fans of Olympic sports in that they will watch it once every four years when its on. Usually being an NFL fan entails a lot more viewing and $ spent.

And your point is? BTW, I think you mean RV campgrounds rather than "trailer parks." As an owner of an RV, I appreciate knowing where to find campgrounds.

Could we
PLEASE stop with the generalizations and social stereotyping? There's enough of that in the real world.
