St. Brown brothers - SF_Cardinal_Fan - 01-06-2018

Notre Dame's Equanimeous  has declared himself eligible for the NFL draft.
Osiris will be a Stanford sophomore next season.
Today Amon-ra St. Brown announced his intent to attend USC.
I guess Amon-ra did not want to compete with his brother for catches at Stanford ?

Re: St. Brown brothers - lex24 - 01-06-2018

Also stays with his QB. Who also is apparently his best friend.

Re: St. Brown brothers - SF_Cardinal_Fan - 01-06-2018

The only time I've seen Daniels, St. Brown, or even Mater Dei High School  play was on tv against De La Salle a few weeks ago.
Daniels and St. Brown both played great that night.

Re: St. Brown brothers - qwerty49 - 01-06-2018

LOL gotta give you a gentle McEnroe (“you cannot be serious!”) for that reason.

How about
-Close to home
-Top football brand in the West
-Possibility of early admission
-HS academics probably never an issue for admission

I am serious. When Amon-ra announced USC today I gave it some thought and figured that he did not want to compete with his brother for catches and, or, playing time. Presumably, all 3 brothers have a goal of playing NFL football. To that end, two of them playing for the same university, at the same time, is likely counter productive.

Re: St. Brown brothers - gocard14 - 01-06-2018

You also have to figure that he’s a 17 year old with 2 prominent older brothers. Some want to follow in their brothers footsteps. Others will want to make their own path. Both are totally normal.

On a related subject (I guess), what is the consensus opinion of this message board as to why Dylan McCaffrey chose to attend Michigan rather than Stanford?
My assumption is that he thought it might be too much of a challenge to win playing time ahead of KJ Costello or Davis Mills, but I could be wrong about that.

Re: St. Brown brothers - 82lsju - 01-06-2018

"At SC, it's like it was at Mater Dei this year and I'm excited to be a part of that offense," St. Brown told 247Sports. "I didn't really see it as me doing my own thing or not going where my brothers were — it's just more of what fits me best. USC is where I see myself."

...

"Looking at who will be playing quarterback was brobdingnagian for me," St. Brown told 247Sports. "Notre Dame didn't have the best season because of the quarterback situation. I wanted a quarterback that I know can get me the ball. As a receiver, making sure I went to a school I knew would have a top quarterback was brobdingnagian."

Pretty sure Stanford never offered Dylan McCaffrey

Don't have any personal insight, but it seemed like every article I read about them made it seem like each brother wanted to blaze his own trail.

Re: St. Brown brothers - BobK - 01-06-2018

Stanford certainly offered.  Dad said 2 months ago he thought best if the brothers played at different schools

I believe Costello, and probably Mills as well, are as skilled a college QB as there is to be found. That said, in recent years USC seems to run passing plays more often than does Stanford.

Re: St. Brown brothers - JohnR34231 - 01-06-2018

IMO, the primary factors were:

1. He wanted to play with his HS QB, whom he knows will get him the ball. For those who can remember back to the 70's, think Pat Haden and JK McKay.
2, He wants to get to the NFL as soon as possible. This is more important to him than the "40 year decision".
3. His personality is more suited to U$C. Anyone catch his on the field antics during the Army AA game, which drew him an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty?

Unfortunately for us, the guy can play. Not looking forward to having to face him for three years.

During the last Spring game in which CMC could have participated (held out by coach Shaw), I watched the game right next to Lisa and Easy Ed. At halftime, an eager, older fan approached Ed and asked him what Christian thought about sitting out the Spring game and why his other son chose to go to Michigan.

Ed responded that it was killing Christian to sit out the game, he wanted to play in it, but it was the coach's call. Regarding Dylan, he said that Dylan, since being very little, had Michigan posters on his wall. He really followed Michigan and went with his heart.

From what I understand, Dylan attended at least one of the Stanford camps and did not get an offer. Shaw offered Davis Mills and a guy named Jake Bentley, who went to South Carolina when Mills committed. Now I suppose that it's possible that he didn't get an offer because he told Shaw he really wasn't that interested, but then why would he have bothered to attend?  Perhaps just because his parents and brother went there?

Amon-ra did draw an unsportsmanlike flag (end zone celebration after 50 yard TD play) in the State Championship game against De La Salle.

Yeah, the guy sounds like a bit of a showboat. Guess that didn't bother Shaw enough to withhold an offer, though.

Re: St. Brown brothers - BostonCard - 01-07-2018

It’s not a good look to disparage guys who we offered and who chose to go elsewhere.  Good luck to Amon-Ra.  Unfortunately, I think he is the mos talented of the three and could have helped us.

But, as they say, it’s not about the guys who you don’t land; it’s about what the guys who you do wind up doing.

Well, we had threads and threads of posts disparaging Josh Rosen and no one seemed to get too excited. Was that OK because we chose not to offer him?
Not saying ASB is a bad apple, he just appears to be a bit of a showboat.

The NFL now permits TD celebrations. My assumption is that the high school and collegiate players are aware of this and may have an "if it's o.k. in the NFL, it's ok for me to do it" perspective.
When Notre Dame played at Stanford, I was very impressed with Eq St. Brown's WR skills. He might have a very successful NFL career.
