NFL Combine Invites - SamuelMcF - 02-06-2018

Phillips, Reid, Meeks, Schultz, Bright, and Kalambayi.

Personally I think Marx is being slept on here, but fullbacks don't usually get drafted anyways. I have little doubt in my mind he'll be picked up somewhere and get a shot.

Hard to imagine Marx not playing on Sundays.

Glad to see Shaquem Griffin was invited. Only player ever to be welcomed without four fully functioning limbs I would guess.

Very excited to watch his combine performance and see how he does in the NFL. He was nothing short of incredible in the Peach Bowl against Auburn - 12 total tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks on the big stage.

Six invites seems like a lot for Stanford. Anyone know the Stanford record for combine invites?  Glad to see Bright and Peter K invited as I don't think they were shoe-ins to be invited.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Six is normal.  That is great. Thanks for the research below.

Much to the chagrin of my boss, I did some research.

In recent history:
2010: 4 (Jim Dray, Toby Gerhart, Matt Kopa, Erik Lorig)
2011: 4 (Owen Marecic, Ryan Whalen, Sione Fua, Richard Sherman)
2012: 6 (David DeCastro, Coby Fleener, Delano Howell, Andrew Luck, Jonathan Martin, Chris Owusu)
2013: 4 (Zach Ertz, Stepfan Taylor, Chase Thomas, Levine Toilolo)
2014: 8 (Tyler Gaffney, Ryan Hewitt, Cam Fleming, David Yankey, Josh Mauro, Trent Murphy, Shayne Skov, Ed Reynolds)
2015: 6 (Ty Montgomery, Andrus Peat, Henry Anderson, David Parry, Alex Carter, Jordan Richards)
2016: 6 (Kevin Hogan, Devon Cajuste, Austin Hooper, Josh Garnett, Kyle Murphy, Blake Martinez)
2017: 4 (Christian McCaffrey, Solomon Thomas, Michael Rector, Conrad Ukropina)
2018: 6 (Harrison Phillips, Justin Reid, Quenton Meeks, Dalton Schultz, Peter Kalambayi, David Bright)

My guess would be the 8 guys in 2014 is the record, based on our recent run of success.

EDIT:
Also keep in mind that some of our guys that have gotten NFL snaps (e.g. Doug Baldwin, Johnson Bademosi, Michael Thomas, Matt Masifilo, Griff Whalen, AJ Tarpley SORRY IF I FORGOT ANYONE ELSE SIGNIFICANT I LOVE YOU ALL) didn't receive invites to the Combine.

Re: NFL Combine Invites - BostonCard - 02-06-2018

Seems like 6 invites is typical for Stanford (at least in recent years).

Interestingly in 9 years, we have never had an odd number of invites.

Re: NFL Combine Invites - CornFed - 02-06-2018

The folks doing the inviting probably think our guys need someone interesting to talk to when they are paired up during drills.  HAH!

I see very few who have not gotten to play in an NFL game.

Perhaps they did, and I miss it, but out of the 42, previous to this year, I think only these haven't gotten to play in an NFL official game: Kopa, C. Thomas, Gaffney, Cajuste, Rector, and Ukropina. That's 6 outta 42. Not bad.
