MBB: Stanford at Berkeley -

On ESPNU. Haase at Haas.
Quote:STANFORD, Calif. Stanford continues its road swing with its shortest trip of the year, as the Cardinal makes the 50-mile trek from Maples Pavilion to Haas Pavilion to face California in Berkeley Sunday night.
INSIDE THE RIVALRY
Stanford and California meet for the 270th time. The Golden Bears hold a 149-120 edge.
The Cardinal has won seven of its past 11 meetings with the Bears.
Only twice in the last seven seasons has one team in the rivalry swept the season series, when Stanford achieved the feat in 2013 and 2015.
Stanford has lost its last two games at Haas Pavilion by an average of 13.5 points.
The Cardinal's last victory in Berkeley was a 69-59 win on Jan. 14, 2015.
Michael Humphrey, Dorian Pickens and Robert Cartwright are the only three current members of the Cardinal to play in a Stanford win at Cal.

Despite our many miscues, we're up 1 at the half, 37-36 and wearing our "lucky" gray unis.

I was thinking the same thing as I read that list. That was a great, great year. (The end, not so much.)

We remain in contention for a top-4 seed at the Pac-12 tournament, which would give us a critical first round bye into the quarterfinals. Important contest toward seeding this week at home against Washington.

Since I was there '81-'85, I only got to see Revelli live on the list, although I met Tom Dose a year ago. (Yes, I emailed him the article earlier.) Hope he was watching! 8)

2 must-win home games coming up. Afterwards, if we can play a decent game in Tempe, perhaps we can steal another road win. Don't expect to give Zona much problem in Tucson, but I am open to being wrong.
An 11-7 record could be good enough for a bye in the P12 tourney.

They need to win both games this week if they want a chance at a first round bye. Even then, 10-8 is probably not going to get it done so they would need one win in the desert to get to 11-7.
It will also be critical for any postseason play. They will need to go 2-2 to finish at or above .500 and be eligible

Agreed he was an all time great but never a dominant scorer. His peak was 13.1 PPG, mostly within a few feet of the rim.
Would have easily been on the list if he made his free throws at an average rate.

Oh man, still the greatest Stanford sports moment that I was ever at live. My gosh, Art Lee just took over the last 2 minutes of that game. And that incredible poke-out of the ball to Madsen followed by his thunderous dunk and foul... Honestly, I never even saw Madsen's arms raised in triumph because I was too busy hugging everybody around me.
Then after Madsen made that all-important free throw Art got called for a foul on that URI's 3-pointer attempt. The URI shooter fell apart and his first shot barely grazed the rim. Art Lee was stomping down the sidelines grabbing his throat in a choke-gesture, and all of us in the stands were begging him to stop to avoid getting a technical. Thank goodness he got away with it.
After the game, Art Lee came up the stands and I shouted, "GREAT JOB ART!!!" And he looked at me for a moment and then grinned like a kid. Man, I loved Art Lee on the court.
A friend of mine decided that they wanted to hire Art Lee to be part of their startup as motivation. Art wouldn't have to do anything--he would just have to sit at his desk, and everybody would see him and be like, "YEAH! YEAH! YEAH ART YEAH!!!" and be all motivated to crush their work. There's a SportsCenter promo for you.
