MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - winflop - 03-14-2018

When the season began, I thought getting to the Big Dance would be the bar. After the preseason, I said I'd be happy if they made the postseason at all. Well, here we are. There are no slouches in the NIT - our boys will need to be sharp and stay out of foul trouble.

I'm looking for better execution on offense in particular.

I have my DVR set. Thanks for starting the thread and not to quibble but it’s PDT.  Not to worry as I still write 2017 on my checks!  :P

Gotta love some of our turnovers.  Pass to the wrong team a number of times but one to the wrong coach another to the wrong fan.  8 turnovers in the first quarter.  But only down 2

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - BobK - 03-14-2018

We are up 9 after 3.  DaSilva with a banked  three at the end of the qtr

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - JJJ - 03-14-2018

Of course da Silva called "bank" before the release...  :P

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - BostonCard - 03-14-2018

26-13 third quarter to go up 9 heading into the fourth.

Travis with 21.  Humphrey, Pickens and Da Silva each in double digits.  Davis has 7 asssists.  It would be even better but we are 7/14 from the free throw line.

Strong Q3 after ending first half down 35 - 39.

Stanford leads 61 -52 after 3 quarters.

Geaux Cardinal!

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - Phogge - 03-14-2018

Both Stanford teams need a free throw guru. Rick Barry?

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - BigEasyCard - 03-14-2018

Cardinal lead 69 - 58 with 7:07 remaining.

Travis having himself a heck of a second half, unlike my impressions of him earlier.

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - BigEasyCard - 03-14-2018

BYU on 10 - 0 run cuts Cardinal lead to 4 with under 3 minutes remaining.  Time to bear down.

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - BigEasyCard - 03-14-2018

Cardinal tighten up and lead by 8 with 28 seconds remaining.

Up 14 with 7min to play.  Then didn't give Reid the ball with less than 4min.

Late furious comeback by Cougs.
BYU got a jump ball turnover, and then a key 3 -- aaaagh.  85 - 83, only up by 2.
Free throw good for us.  Foul BYU dribbling up.  They miss both.
Could not get the rebound, BYU gets a last shot -- MISS !
Ducked a bullet, big time there.  AT HOME in PA.  STAN 86, BYU 83.  Wheeew.

Play OKST next, the snubbed team.
As the higher seeded team, Cowboys host in Stillwater, time TBD

This team gives me a heart attack every time I watch it. I said I wouldn't watch but I did...the last 30 seconds. Mistake mistake mistake

We won 86-83 and it took 3 years off my life.

Nope, they are in the tourney. (Not that they should be since they were terrible down the stretch.)

We play Oklahoma State, who actually BEAT the Trae Young show twice.

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - BigEasyCard - 03-14-2018

Next game Sunday 3/18 at Oklahoma State, time TBD.

So far in the NIT, the better seed has won 15 of 16 games.  We'll need to break that pattern in Stillwater.

Re: MBB vs BYU Wed 7pm PST - PVTree - 03-15-2018

We did our best to give the game away, but BYU just barely didn't do enough to take our gift.

Turnovers, matador defense, poor FT shooting with a side of long 3 point shots by non-3 point shooters was the recipe for the first half of the game. We trailed 39-30 at one point, and I felt fortunate going into the half trailing only 39-35.

We slowly started to play better and built a 14 point lead 62-48. Everything was going well until it stopped going well. We hit a brick wall. Turnovers, missed shots, more missed FTs, and placing a red carpet in the paint once again was how BYU made their comeback in the last minute of the game.

We were smart to foul, up 3 with 5 seconds to go. Best yet, their FT was missed, and now they had to go for the intentional miss. They missed, but we fumble the ball going to the ground after getting the rebound. The BYU guy, Haws (who looks to be 30 years old) picks up the ball, goes to the corner, and shoots the "tying" 3-pointer. It was right in front of me, and I had a great view. It was a perfect line from the shooter's hand to the basket. I followed that shot and thought the game is tied when I saw it arcing up. Fortunately, it bounced off the rim, and the time expired before they could get another shot off.

We played poorly (give us a C or C+ at best), but in March, it's all about getting the win regardless of style points.

Did a quick check and OK State is 4-4 against currently ranked teams (and 2-1 against #4 Kansas). If they play like they did in those victories we will have our hands full.
