Here's an article about what a miserable year the Pac-12 is having.

Kinda hard to argue with, unfortunately.
It does give us some props for being good in the non-revenue sports.

Isn't Arizona losing worse for us financially? Does it work like bowl games where more tournament games = more conference revenue = more revenue distributed to member institutions?

The Pac-12 would get revenue over a number of years based on the performance of the conference's members in the NCAA tournament. This 2018 result will likely be referenced by Wilner for the duration of that payout window as other Power 5 conferences will not have similar sub-par financial results.Â
This likely will be used by UCB and others with troubling finances to justify their inability to properly service debt, balance budgets, support non-revenue programs, increase salaries, etc.
The impact to this traditionally reliable revenue stream will impact Stanford's AD too, but on a relative basis it will hurt others in the Pac-12 a lot more as I am sure Wilner will note in the next ~2-14 days.

Indeed, hard to argue. Pac 12 earns a grand total of 25 Directors' Cup points in Men's Basketball for Arizona's 33rd place finish.
Geaux Cardinal!

in 2015-16 the NCAA/Pac-12 payout to Stanford was $7.9m out of a total revenue of $108m, not sure what share of the $7.9m is from Men's basketball, this compares with $19.9m in broadcast revenue.

This was one of the factors holding me back from a more full-throated defense of Stanford's improvement and Haase this season - uncertainty as to the quality of the Pac-12.
Looking less impressive by the moment. And this stinker tournament is going to leave a lingering stench.

Impressed by the athletic talent at many of the mid majors. Stanford has a ways to go to match up.

"Stanford remains excellent at sports that arent on TV."
