Men's soccer attrition - DenverCard - 04-21-2018

It's the spring season for Men's soccer, during which the team plays a series of practice games, and I took the opportunity to look over the 2018 roster as listed on gostanford.com.  Leaving due to graduation is a large and exceptionally successful senior class, including the second pick in this year's MLS Draft, Tomas Hilliard-Arce.  In addition, two notables whom I expected to return for the 2018 season were not on the roster: Sam Werner, a real up-and-comer who blossomed in late 2017, who would have been a redshirt senior (5th year on the team, but 4th year of eligibility) in the fall, and Carson vom Steeg, a highly-rated sophomore-to-be who saw some playing time last year.

Wondering if anyone closer to the team can confirm these losses and perhaps explain why the players are leaving (? to play professionally)?

Werner did graduate.

Werner graduates in June and decided not to use his 4th year of eligibility

Matt and Bob,

Thanks for the information.  The upcoming season might be a rebuilding one for Stanford Soccer; on the other hand, there's good reason to believe that Jeremy Gunn will find a way.

Anyone knows what happened to Carson Vom Steeg?  Did he play at the recent exhibition game? Did he travel to Europe with the team?  Is he transferring to UCSB to play for his dad?

It would be unfortunate if he has transferred.  He would have been a great choice to replace hilliard-acre.
