Thank you for the link. Some real insight from Tempie on how things are going. Alanna is replacing Britt as the focal point, probably.
Reading between the lines, my guess is that Jerome is earning a lot of playing time at the stretch 4 and Dodson is still a work in progress--still is dealing with self-confidence and learning from mistakes. And just like last year everyone marvels at Dodson's athleticism. But she is "thinking too much" and just needs to rely on her physical talents more. Fingall is praised for her versatility. "We have to get her more time." That is the kind of remark you don't make about a starter, so I really don't have a clearer picture of who starts at the 5. It sounds like it is going to come down to Fingall vs. Dodson, depending on who develops the best over the summer.
At the 4 there is an odd clash brewing. Smith will be the focal point, and it is clear that they want her at the four and not just being a post player. But that is also where they are pushing Jerome, and it sure seems like they want Jerome to be more than Smith's understudy. My guess is that for a few minutes a game Smith will be back at the 5 or Jerome will be at the 3, giving them a chance to both be on the court at the same time. If Dodson and/or Fingall don't develop well, then maybe we will see more of that.
I'm curious as to how others read Tempie's words. Interesting how Tempie notes that there "is a lot of competition to play at the guard spots." I would certainly think so!

I interpret the guard comment is that Jerome needs to be at 4 or 5. Supports views of lots of competition at
1 (where I saw Brown play and think she will be better than Sniezek), 2 (Williams), and 3 (Carrington and the Hulls who were also quite impressive). Of course, one might go with Williams at 1 and Carrington at 2 if we need Jerome at 3? Also, Wilson is the x factor. When she is healthy she has tremendous ability as we have seen.

Alanna is also our best defender in the paint, but maya could be there soon, so having her out the on the wing guarding a small (as mentioned previously) would be detrimental imho. I could see Alanna outside on offense and Jerome and Fingall down low, and reverse Alanna and Jerome (or Carrington) on defense

Even though Smith improved on her defense without fouling, there were still games last season when she accumulated a couple of quick fouls and Tara had to sit her prematurely. Having Jerome as someone who could potentially come in without a significant drop-off in contribution, would be important.
Plus, with Alanna a senior and Alyssa just a sophomore next year, Jerome would gain valuable experience both playing with Smith at the same time and by herself, potentially taking over the 4 spot when Alanna graduates. It could make the transition smoother heading in the 2019-20 season, as it hopefully will help DiJonai this season as she assumes the 3 role from Britt, as Carrington both provided relief for McPhee and then often complemented her out on the court at the same time last year.

Random (and potentially out there) thought: if we have a fluid offense with a lot inside-outside shotmaking potential, do we need a traditional big to play the 5 and hang out under the basket? I could see a universe where we have Williams and then either Sniezek or Brown at the perimeter able either to shoot treys or cut inside, Jerome at the high post able to take jumpers, distribute, or provide screens, Smith at the corner/wing ready to make a trey or take the ball inside to the basket, and Carrington in the lane/short corner ready for rebounds or passes inside for layups. Carrington is great around the basket and a rebounding machine, that kind of positioning would enhance the Princeton offense's ability to move the ball around quickly and find mismatches, and it would also allow Smith to move from the wing to the basket either when the shot comes from outside (to get the rebound if it doesn't fall) or when she has the ball in hand and drives to the basket rather than taking the trey.
I guess I just don't think we need a low post that sits inside the box, given where I feel like our offense is going to come from and the nature of the Princeton. Even Smith doesn't really prefer the back-to-the-basket type of moves, so having someone stationed right in the paint just doesn't seem as useful.
