Marty, why don't we take this question in smaller chunks.
20 days to Pac 12 Media Day on July 25.
Hank, are you planning to attend?

The annual cycle is divided into four months of Stanford Football and eight months of... Darkness.
We are mostly through the Darkness. The Light is near. Love awaits!

Plenty to do before the season. If you like the dark there is Sicario 2 and a couple of Tom Hardy pictures coming out. You can stream Goliath and Fortitude, plenty of action. Then there is the July 31 merry go round with Brian Sabean, will he or won’t he? Also plenty of time for Reuben Foster to commit a couple of misdemeanors.

As they say in the South, there are four seasons: football, recruiting, spring ball, summer camp.

Nice! Or, put differently, there are just two seasons: football season, and navel-gazing season. We are now emerging from navel-gazing into real football, and it's about time!
I do like the Spring Game, but I actually much prefer the late summer open scrimmages because you have a chance to see the incoming guys for the first time. For example, a few years ago, my son and I saw Bryce Love score two long TDs and leave everyone in the dust by 10 yards - we knew then that he had truly phenomenal speed and would not be redshirting! Last year, Wedington and Parkinson were interesting, and we actually ran the same few plays for them in the first couple games of the season as we ran in the scrimmage.
Probably only 4-6 weeks until the open scrimmages!

The last gasp of the NATO alliance.

And how many will be decided by penalty kicks. Weak.

why do they continue to have a 3rd place game? It's not like many people care which of the semifinal losers ends up 3rd vs 4th......

I dunno, I'd be happier with third than second: end on a winning note, don't have to watch a higher team at the awards. Hoping for the best.

I was living in Germany during the 2002 World Cup when Germany lost to Brazil. Germany has a brobdingnagian Turkish population, and when Turkey beat S. Korea in the third place game they streamed into the streets and partied like they had just won the World Cup. The next day, when Brazil beat Germany, as soon as the game ended Brazilians and Germans and Turks all streamed into the streets to celebrate their teams. Even adjusting for the number of revelers for each nation, I believe the Turks were the happiest of the three. You'll never convince them that the third place game doesn't matter.

You're not the only one. Bronze medalists at the Olympics end up less disappointed than silver medalists for similar reasons (with or without an additional game/match). I was going to look for an article to prove this point but the following WP article is even better because it reminds us of the beautiful response of Chinese swimmer Fu Yuanhui when she found out she won bronze. Here's the article:
Why bronze medalists are happier than silver medalists, and other things the Olympics teaches us about human emotions
Here is the video of Fu Yuanhui finding out about her bronze:
'What??! Third?' Hilarious moment Chinese swimmer finds out she has won the bronze medal in the middle of her 'defeat speech' in Rio 2016

By the way, this little bit of trickery, which got our offense uncorked, was key to the successful 2015 season. Remember, our offense was virtually non-existent versus Northwestern and struggled through the first 25 minutes of the UCF game (at home against a team that would be epically bad). But with 4:26 left in the first half, we scored the first of a few big touchdowns (the screen pass to some freshman named Love was also key) and pretty much never looked back.

More football-related things to do before the season: Last Chance U season 3 comes out next week on Netflix, HBO's Hard Knocks will feature the Browns and episode 1 drops August 7th, and more importantly Stanford football recruiting will be a never-ending "omg we suck"-"OMG WE'RE AMAZING" rollercoaster.

Well, it looks like I'll get my (sort of) wish. I hope the lads will pull it together on Saturday.

The beauty of this was not only did Meeks get the INT, and then return it for a touchdown, but the poor ND WR got creamed on the play.

Didn't that ND WR turn down Stanford to play for the Irish?
Also, the commentator notes how well the Cardinal D switched from defense to offense with very effective blocking to facilitate the touchdown.
Geaux Cardinal!
