Woo Hoo! Stanford to the 2019 Fiesta Bowl - cardcrimson - 08-09-2018

Or so says this article from CBS:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-playoff-bowl-projections-preseason-calls-for-each-of-the-2018-19-games/

Oddly, there's no mention of any Pac-12 team in the write up. Just the projections. Even Coastal Carolina and the Oakland A's earned more pixels. . . .

Bryce has said he came back to do something he hasn’t done yet like win a Rose Bowl, or play for the playoffs. Fiesta is always a great accomplishment, but I do believe this year’s team is aiming for more. It takes a lot of staying healthy, growth and consistency, but the cfp or Roses feels like the right goal to me.

The way to attain those goals is to win all your games. I am sure Shaw is telling the team "Just worry about SDSU. The rest is later." Right now, we are undefeated. The goal is to stay that way. A bit trite, but right now, that is "our deal".

The prediction of UW in the Rose and Stanford in the Fiesta, with no Pac-12 team in the Playoff, would most likely imply the following combination of occurrences:

1) Stanford at 10-2, including a loss to UW.  Or maybe 9-3, with a regular season win against the South champ, such as USC?

2) UW at 11-2, with a loss to Auburn, a win over Stanford, and one other loss.  (Despite the weakness of the Pac-12, it would be a travesty if a 12-1 UW team, with wins over Auburn or Stanford and the South champ, were to be denied the Playoff.)

3) No other Power 5 champs with more than 2 losses.

I guess it's somewhat plausible.  As always, I'll be pulling for losses by all the heavyweights in the Big-12.  It seems like it's always the Big-12 or the Pac-12 that are on the outside, looking in...

Yes agreed, SageHen! Although with coaching turmoil at the OSU, there’s also the potential for a meltdown in the Big 10 this year as well (like a 10-2 Wisconsin), leading, of course, to all 4 teams in the cfp being selected from the SEC...
