The New Me - CowboyIndian - 08-28-2018

OK...CowboyIndian here. I somehow got locked out of the Cardboard about a month ago when I was on the road in Montana and Wyoming, using iPhone, laptop and iPad. My password wasn't working so I tried to get another one. Went through the process...and that one wouldn't work. I sent about 4-5 begging, pleading CONTACT US messages to whoever is supposed to answer those questions/problems. Nada! So I re-registered. After some stumbling around, that act finally let me back in with a new identity.

I would really like my old one back. Anyone know whom I should contact to make it so?

I've been womdering where you have been.  Figured you were enjoying the offseason.  Welcome back.

I think there is some way in your profile edit options that you can change your screen name.  Someone with greater familiarity than I will have to give you the step by step, if you need it.

RE: The New Me - Stymie - 08-29-2018

I share your pain, Redux.  I gave up trying to get a new password a few weeks ago.

I can't post from my phone since the shiutdown, but can otherwise. Weeird I can PM from my phone.
But from my computer and tablet all OK.

I have a number of friends now locked out computer and tablet who used to post, sad.

RE: The New Me - stupac2 - 08-29-2018

Looks like I don't have any tools that can help (so presumably BC and Marty don't either), leaving Yvonne and CompSci. I'd contact them. Yvonne's been pretty swamped with fixing the backend issues so that could be why this has gone unresolved.

RE: The New Me - martyup - 08-29-2018

Welcome back CI!  I thought you got caught rustlin' and were swingin' from a tree in Wyoming.  Many users have had your issue and it will be solved by Admin.  Cinch up, the season is about to nod its head.  </cheese>

Great to see you again, and I feel your pain.  I somehow wound up in the same circumstances and eventually somehow wound up with both "BostonCard" and "Boston Card" (I don't remember re-registering but somehow I did).  In any case, eventually CompSci was able to merge my two accounts, so hopefully the same can be done for you.

Thanks for all the comments indicating that I am not Robinson Crusoe on this. I look forward to being whole again.

No rustling involved in Wyoming but we did hold a two-day satellite/Internet cattle auction in Cheyenne...totally above board and monitored by the P&S (Packers and Stockyards Administration). Market is good...time to sell.

RE: The New Me - CompSci87 - 08-29-2018

Yvonne knows something about login issues. I thought she'd installed fix(es), but I'm not sure if the fixes got dropped due to other problems. She is trying to do a reinstall right now.

I haven't been doing anything much to help Yvonne with the new software, as work got to be too hectic for a while.

I am puzzled why some folks having login problems couldn't reach us via email and get a response.  I've only ever seen a few emails from board members about that (and I left them for Yvonne to handle). Email to moderators@thecardboard.org should reach us all.

I did find a function in the new board software for merging accounts, which seems to work. So I can merge the old and new accounts of folks who created a new one because of login issues. But will you be sbable log in to the merged account? Hopefully yes; the process worked for BostonCard recently.

As a user of this forum who changed his user name long ago and then a second time, I think I discovered that after change #1 my login was still my original account user name. But it took me a while to figure out that after the second time, or after the forum's software upgrade, I had to use my new or current user name. It doesn't sound like this is the issue people are having though.

glad to see I'm not the only one having issues.....since a few months ago, I can't access the board at all off my phone.....

on laptop, I can't access it using chrome or firefox.  I can only access via safari (the only reason I still use that browser)

is there something else I can do to make it accessible on the different platforms?

Similar problem here.  It's why I'm Mick1 instead of Mick.  And back in the early internet days, I was MickthePaddy.

RE: The New Me - CompSci87 - 08-29-2018

For those who can access the board from some browsers but not others, or from your desktop computer but not your phone, what are the symptoms when you "can't access"? Does the board not let you log in, or is it broken in some other way?

RE: The New Me - 2006alum - 08-29-2018

Hey folks,

Following on CompSci's request, can anyone having access issues also please specify which browsers and platforms you CAN and CANNOT access. So, for example:

CAN:
chrome & firefox on PC, safari on macOS, safari on iOS

CANNOT:
chrome & firefox on macOS, any browser on Android.

And before you do that, could you please clear your history and all cookies on any browsers/devices where this is an issue, and then try again? If you tried logging in while the Board was down and got redirected, I have seen issues in the past where a browser that gets redirected due to an outage keeps trying to go back to the redirected site again even when a site is back up and you're typing in the correct URL. I wonder if you might be stuck in that loop on those browsers?

For folks having password/login/naming issues, mods cannot change user names, only Admins can. In the past the Admins would on a discretionary basis take username change requests from PMs. I imagine the same is true for passwords? Sorry we can't help you here.

And Mick: your posts, to me, show up as "Mick." That may not be the username you log in as, but that's how it appears to me on all browsers/platforms. I have never seen Mick1 anywhere.

RE: The New Me - Griffins78 - 08-29-2018

I had issues on my iPhone - links would take me to top level but I could not get to the board from any links. I had login problems but Admin took care of. Now everything works for me on Safari on iOS and MacOS.

RE: The New Me - Card Fan in OR - 08-30-2018

After months (maybe four) of not being able to see the board at all, then being able to see it on my Mac, but not my iPad, this week I have been able to log in on both. I am happy to be back and pleased at least to find out my problems were not a result of my own ineptitude. I could not have made it through a football season without all of you and thecardboard.

I have, however lost my identity, presumably never to be recovered. My somehow defaulted username was never intended to be. I would love to have my old identity back, but, for the moment, just happy to be back. I remain the ever-loyal

Card Fan in OR

despite my new handle.

RE: The New Me - terry - 08-30-2018

I had a log-in problem a few weeks ago. The main log-in screen would not take my password. I tried getting a new password several times, with no luck.

I discovered another way of logging in that worked for me. Rather than using the main log-in screen, I attempted to reply to a post. This brought up a screen telling me I needed to be a registered member and prompting me to log in. I was able to log in using that screen. Anyone who is having a log-in problem might want to try this.

Shortly after I discovered this work-around, Yvonne made a fix on the main log-in screen, which worked for me. So now I can log in either way.
