Other week 1 games of note -

Pac-12 hasn't had too many terribly noteworthy games yet. Maryland has gone up 24-7 on Texas. The Tom Herman era ain't looking too much different than the Charlie Strong one.

Scott Frost era begins on Fox vs Akron. Frost picked his true freshman QB recruit to start and lost his only other scholarship QB dropped out of school.
Nebraska has an insanely tough Big 10 road schedule: Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Ohio State, Iowa.

Jake Browning looked panicked the entire drive, even when he was successfully completing plays.
Auburn's up 9-0 but looks like the much better team so far. The difference: Browning looks pretty poor when forced to scramble off his mark, and Stidham is crushing UW whether in or outside the pocket.
Penn State is scuffling with App State.
And UW is just being slowly worn down by Auburn.

Husky passing attack starting to come alive. Now only down by 2 just before the half - 15 - 13.

Is USC struggling with UNLV?

Pretty similar performance from USC against an albeit weaker Mountain West opponent, than what Stanford put up against a much better Mountain West opponent (perennial conference contender), as USC wins 43-21. For the worry about our run defense, USC gave up over 300 yards rushing to UNLV, with a 7.2 YPC average. That bodes well for Bryce and the running game to have a more statistically impressive game, with a possible regression expected in the passing game.
All in all, Stanford is playing at home, and put up a similar performance against a stronger Mountain West team. We are also not starting a true freshman QB, and it is running back by committee for SC right now, as opposed to a pre-season All-American for us. We can certainly lose if we don't play well, but I would put the prior on us somewhere between -5 and -7.

ND up 21-10 on Michigan at the half. Michigan not playing well. Wimbush is taking a beating and probably running too much. Difficult to see how he survives the season if he continues like this.

Pac - 12 is 6-2, only losses Washington to Auburn (16-21, spread was -2 Auburn), and Oregon State to tOSU (31-77). Also, Stanford's defense leads nation in sacks with 5.0 and sacks/yards lost with 43.

Make that 6-3, after UCLA lays an absolute egg at home in Chip Kelly's debut in Westwood. Cincinnati of the AAC knocks off the Bruins 26-17, after UCLA takes an illegal substitution penalty, allowing Cincy to go for it on 4th and goal from the 1, scoring a TD, and ice the game. An absolute disaster to start the Chip Kelly era, with a trip to Norman to play OU looming next week.

Hope Chip brings that same magic on 11/24...

Seems like several teams struggled - typical of Week 1. Made me feel better about last night that our boys only struggled for the first half.

Another first year Pac-12 coach is going to likely take a loss in their home debut, as Kevin Sumlin and UA are getting embarrassed at home by BYU 28-10. A disaster of a third quarter has turned a 10-7 Wildcats lead, into a 18 point deficit.
I guess this proves Herm was the best hire in the Pac-12 South this off-season. :)

I also noticed that multiple teams had trouble with the new rule in starting the play clock immediately after kickoff. So our timeout to start game was not atypical for the week

Ohhhhhh!! I forgot about that. I am so glad you made your comment. I was totally shocked when there was no reaction on the game thread.

Christian's brother Dylan McCaffrey (redshirt freshman QB at Michigan) came in for a few series against Notre Dame when the starting QB Shea Patterson went down with cramps. In general, Dylan looked poised and effective, even against a pretty ferocious ND pass rush. Patterson will no doubt remain the starter, but Dylan looks like he has a shot to overtake Patterson at some point this year.

Harbaugh may be looking for a new job if he can’t get his offense to work. It reminded me of when Nunes was our QB.

Did anyone actually watch Oregon vs Bowling Green? Any impressions of Herbert?
The guys on the Pac 12 Network recap show were gushing about Herbert, but it's their job to gush.
While Oregon won easily after a rocky start, and Herbert threw for 5 TDs, he also completed less than 50% of his attempts and had 2 interceptions.
That's against a Bowling Green team that was pretty awful last year, and as far as I know wasn't projected to be much better.

Herbert only completed ten passes and five of them went for TD's. A 50% TD to completion percentage isn't a record, I'm sure, but it is the best I have ever heard of.
The times I have seen Herbert (which I admit haven't been many) I have not been overly impressed. I guess we'll find out soon enough how good he is, as we play them on the 22nd.

Braylon Edwards (former Michigan player, who has been frequently critical of Harbaugh) unloaded on Michigan. "Ruiz (the center) is weak, line is weak, shea [sic] (the quarterback) is scared, [obscenity] Michigan offense is so predictable."
Ouch.

I did not see the game. But it seems like the Ducks play a couple of cupcakes early every season, blow them out, and then come back down to earth when they play a real opponent. Similarly, Herbert has lates well last season against weak opponents, but not so well against P5 programs with a winning record.
