See Ya Hei$man. . . . - cardcrimson - 09-08-2018

Pretty unimaginative play calling to get the most exiting player in college football the ball. No screens, no wheel routes, no attempts as a split out. At least there were a couple of outside the tackle plays, including the well designed play that got him 50 yds (with a downfield block, it would have gone for six). Hopefully Davita is holding out for later in the season to get more press.

Who cares about the Voldemort. Shaw's job is to win games.

Pretty crazy that with all the departures we had last year, the guy we miss the most is Daniel Marx.

What pissed me off is that Love was in on the last series (well, second to last) and got hit in the head and taken to the locker room.  Gotta hope he didn't get concussed in garbage time.

It wouldn't break my heart if Love were out for the Davis game...

+1000 this comment.

I don't think Stanford misses anyone in particular. I think it's purely a tactical issue: defenses are aggressively selling out to blitz on every play and Shaw, for whatever reason, is refusing to pass enough. To be fair, some of the opportune passes that are getting called aren't getting executed properly (that play action bomb to Irwin was basically perfect...except for Costello's a-bit-too-far throw), but ultimately the offense will be fine if Shaw lets go of his preconceptions of what it should look like.

Wrong. Shaw's job is to promote Stanford football. Winning games is just part of the equation. If it were just winning games, we would have very different recruiting standards, wouldn't we?

How many Hei$man candidates have ever taken the course load Bryce is taking and made it his priority that he wants to be a pediatrician? Promoting Stanford football is about marketing. Marketing a great Stanford student like Bryce includes giving him every opportunity to succeed.

Does that include running him with 2 mins remaining, up by 2 TDs, and apparently putting him in a position to get concussed on his last play of the game?  I felt it was unnecessary before it happened, and now it seems especially so.

I hope he’s fine.

I doubt that Voldemort voters, even if they watched this game closely, are going to remember much more than the box score from the game in December. Granted, Bryce had some long runs to enhance the stat sheet, but it is still 136 yards, 1 TD and a 6.2 YPC. I mean, if McCaffrey comes in second after breaking Barry Sanders (Sr.)'s record, I don't know what else to say. I don't think Bryce is necessarily going to win the Voldemort, but I am sure he will be very happy with his Human Biology degree, his NFL career, and his medical school plans afterward in June. With a path forward like that, you can't lose.

Frankly, the name of this thread, and this take is bordering on First Take trolling at this point.

Very results-oriented, imo, to criticize Shaw for running Love. Up 14 with 2 minutes is a fairly secure position, but hardly a dead cert. Love only had 22 carries. Of all the bad decisions Shaw made tonight -- which were many (though obviously the team played well, which is to his credit) -- this hardly rates highly for me.
