Feature: The Stanford TE legacy entrenched itself with Ertz at Oregon, now it returns - davidmlombardi - 09-20-2018

We saw a lot of Stanford interest after the post-USC game feature, so good news: Here we are with another one during Oregon week, which brings Zach Ertz's legendary 2012 catch full circle.

Ertz on working with Kaden Smith, a trip down memory lane to the details of the 2012 upset at Autzen, and more. Hope you all enjoy the longer-form Stanford stuff; I won't post every article on here, but did want to spread the word that this is something I'm starting to incorporate more at The Athletic. Thanks for the support!

Thank you for writing and sharing. The Athletic is a much better place at showcasing your writing and storytelling abilities. Continue the great work.

Thank you! I appreciate that. I think that the Stanford audience appreciates the longer-form writing about the program, there definitely isn't much of that out there right now, so if we get the word out I will be able to deliver more of it.

Call me electronically challenged but although I subscribed to The Athletic, I don't necessarily get the updates unless I open the app, so please feel free to post here when you write about Stanford. Just one older guy's opinion.

They have RSS feeds if you're into that kind of thing.

Will do! I’ll be writing another feature this week (I wasn’t in Eugene). Can’t believe how perfectly that ended for Stanford after the focus of last week’s piece was Parkinson and Costello doing extra work on their red zone connection! Sometimes the stars align.

Hey David,

If you have access to 49er players as part of your beat, a question came up in another thread that you may be able to ask.  How would Richard Sherman defend JJ Arcega-Whiteside?

Good one. I talk to Sherman about Stanford in the locker room all the time. You might have just given me an article idea. :)

By the way... working on a big Paulson Adebo feature, will be out tomorrow. For now, they're allowing me to slowly continue the ramp-up of Stanford coverage. Ranked the Oregon win against other big ones since 2007: https://theathletic.com/543575/2018/09/25/tuesday-morning-football-49ers-and-raiders-have-retreated-to-big-picture-where-does-stanfords-win-stand/

Great idea for an article.  Can we be more strategic as fans and do this article after Arcegatron graduates?
