And there, in one tweet, is the trouble with the Internet.

Forde had a 98.7% chance of being right with 1 minute remaining, according to ESPN. That's good enough for most journalists, I guess.

Man I get sick of hearing about the playoffs.

It was (at least according to ESPN) 99% when Oregon had first and goal at the 1 and a 24-7 lead late in the third quarter.

I'm posting that ESPN win probability chart everywhere.

That's what I find so amazing about this game. We had a 1% chance of winning in the third quarter and started to crawl out of the hole, only to find ourselves with a 1% chance of winning again 18 minutes later. There should be another metric for "game drama" based on swings in probability.

I have to be honest, I pretty much gave up hope three times. What a game. Hard to remember a Stanford win in which Stanford came back from the dead like this to win it. Wow!

To Forde's credit, he owns it:

I liked the call-out to his daughter (on the Stanford women's swim team).

There is one!

I'm not aware of anyone who does this sort of thing regularly, but your idea (larger changes in probability = more exciting) has precedent.

THIS!! Lex, we need to go to an old-guy bar and rant about this to each other. No one else is listening.

I'm chalking it up as the greatest Stanford comeback win I've seen since I started attending games in 1969...

This makes two years in a row that Stanford pulled out a miracle victory in the state of Oregon thanks to a late fumble recovery and a lot of gritty play.

Lex and CI. The pennant races between the Giants and Dodgers in the 60’s, especially in ‘59 and ‘62, were way more exciting than all the WS I have seen and covered.
Screw the playoffs. Up with the Rose Bowl.
Perhaps we all can meet for a couple of drinks at Bill and Kathy’s, just off the intersection of 505 and 5. Or on a Cottonwood road trip.

I'm with you guys. I know the horse is out of the barn, but if it were up to me we would go back to the pre-BCS era where the goal of the season was not to make the playoffs, but rather to win your conference and go to your conference's bowl tie-in (Rose Bowl for the Pac-12).
