2010 Oregon-Stanford game - cctop - 09-25-2018

(I hope the team has mentally moved on to Notre Dame in a way that I haven't yet...)

My thoughts keep comparing this game to the 2010 game @Oregon, when the winner of the game went to the national championship.

Stanford up 21-3 at the end of the 1st quarter.  Oregon scores then recovers a surprise onside kick to score again and change the entire momentum of the game.  Stanford hangs on to lead 31-24 at the half.  First drive of the 3rd quarter, Oregon knocks Chris Owusu unconscious and runs the ball back to the 3 yard line.  Stanford has two more turnovers in the 2nd half and the game ends 52-31.  Oregon goes to the national championship game instead of Stanford.

Frankly I was and still am more upset about the hit on Owusu than about losing the game.  But even though the stakes were not as high this past Saturday, I'm still feeling like it's a bit of payback.

We've certainly had a decade of good games.

You are not alone.  I too thought back to the 2010 game.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, though that is not much comfort to Owusu.

The OPI penalty on Owusu that preceded the hit to his head was just as egregious.

On the Duck board, they recognize that this is karma for 2010.  Here is a Duck fan lamenting:

Quote:I’m just…gutted. This felt like a tide turning game. And we’re going to lose because we’re young, can’t cover their WRs and TEs, and the narrative will be about how Oregon blew their biggest game in several years. It hurts man. But I’m sure a lot of people will learn a lot of things from this fiasco, win or lose.

This is revenge for that 21-3 comeback.

Yes, I also read that over at ATQ.  What goes around comes around.  That 2010 game still stings.  Since I live overseas (9 hour time difference), I couldn't watch the game.  But I saw the 21-3 score after the first quarter and went to bed thinking: Oregon is clearly overrated, and we are going to plaster them today.  I woke up to a result I could never have expected after that first quarter.  Well, I guess our friends in Eugene just got to experience how that feels.

For me, the game turned when the play clock became inoperable and Stanford couldn't run the clock down and play at their methodical pace.
