Stanford Jock School?? - Erika - 07-09-2011

Something Cardboard Fans may appreciate....
My Daughter, who will be a freshman at Stanford this fall, is working at the Nordstrom in Bellevue,WA this summer.  In the course of helping customers, she is often asked where she will be attending college.  She has been amazed at the big deal most of the public thinks it is, but even more surprising the second question often is "Oh, are you an athlete??" (she isn't).

RodentMaven -
    One word:  Congratulations.

If I had to pick one feeling while reading about your daughter's upcoming fall?  Envy.
(I tell this to the undergraduates when they call me for my annual Stanford Fund pledge:  These are the best four years of your life.  I qualify that by saying that life doesn't go downhill after that, but that you'll never have a situation when you are surrounded so closely and so intensely by so many talented, bright, fascinating and fun individuals.)

Congrats indeed :)  But maybe she'll walk on to the rowing team and then become an athlete there...(rowing teams always need walk-ons!  Tell her to give it a try!)

Well...we DO rule WOMEN'S college athletics - Redrum - 07-09-2011

let her bask in the reflected light.  Where's the harm?

Congrats.  Seems like only yesterday I sent my daughter off to Stanford.  Without exaggerating, I can say it changed her life to be learning and maturing with a whole campus full of kids that actually cared about  intellectual pursuits...and managed to have so much FUN while doing it.  Best choice she and we ever made.    Your daughter is going to love it.

P.S.  I tried to make my daughter a Stanford football fan but the indoctrination only partially stuck.  You have a chance to change that.  Make tuition payments conditional on you seeing your daughter in the TV shots of the Stanford cheering section.  It's a benefit for you, too.  We will be on TV a lot and this will be your chance to see her.  Who knows,  maybe she'll be the girl that paints a big red  "R" on her torso as part of her dorm's S-T-A-N-F-O-R-D spellout.Â
