our losses and looking forward -
BostonCard - 11-03-2018
We have lost to four teams with a combined 30-7 record. Obviously that sucks, but our remaining opponents are a combined 9-18.
Of course, we have to beat them... but I think we can.

Also, all four of our losses are to teams currently ranked in the top-25. I thought Utah might fall off after their loss, but they’re still there at #24. Notre Dame is #3, WSU is #9, UW is #18.

Utah is at #24 in the Coaches' Poll. They fell out of the AP poll, where UW comes in at #20, Wazzu at #10 and ND at #3. Of course, three of the seven losses these teams have suffered were to teams we have beaten this year (Oregon, USC and ASU). That makes it a little bit less impressive.

One other common element about the teams that defeated Stanford. None of them turned the ball over. Stanford has forced 0 TOs in its 4 losses. It has forced 12 turnovers in the 5 wins.

Very true! In our losses, we have turned the ball over, but got none back. Part of that [rant] is caused by making a conscious decision to throw the ball to covered receivers. The "back shoulder" throw is great when the QB can perfectly throw the ball. However, if it becomes a front shoulder throw, bad things can and do happen. KJ is very good, but he is not perfect. Yes, the receiver will battle for the ball, but does not always win that battle. We really need to re-think our reliance on this tactic. [/rant]
