After doing nothing first half and in danger of going down 0-21 late in 2nd, Cal gets a fumble. Then first SC series they snap it over head for a safety. Short drive for TD. 9-14. Then a pick. Now 15-14 UCB midway in third. Stanford will have its hands full next week. Wilcox has done a very nice job. Focusing on defense and a ball control offense. Gee. That sounds familiar.

Cal gained 207 yards total against USC. They beat UW with 247 yards of offense. In both games, they only won because the opposing offense gave them the ball for scores and on short fields.

I started watching this game in the 4th quarter after I got home from the stadium.
Cal's defense looks scary good, especially their pass rush. There were at least two plays in just the 4th quarter where they read SC perfectly and shot the gap for a sack. It didn't feel at any time like SC was going to score again.
Saturday is going to be a battle.

From what I have seen, the top three defenses in the Pac 12 appear to be UW, cal, Utah - in that order.
Stanford got completely stymied by UW in the first half and moved the ball almost at will in the second.
Stanford generally moved the ball quite well vs Utah, but couldn't hold onto it.
Vs cal, it seems to be the full range of possible productivity is in play.

$C's OL and OC are both hot piles of garbage.
With a fully healthy OL, they averaged 3.1 YPC and gave up 4 sacks and 7 TFL against OUR defensive front.

Cal's win over USC is bad for us in two respects: what it suggests about the Big Game, and what it means for Clay Helton's longevity at USC (which I hope is long, a la Steve Lavin and UCLA basketball).
