Men's Soccer Tournament Bracket - muiron - 11-12-2018

We're the #9 seed, which isn't shocking. (I do think a win, at home, against (bad) Cal might have had us in the top six but the NCAA seeders haven't liked us since the year before our first championship, when a Jordan Morris team was a #1 seed (IIRC) and lost to UCI on a golden goal early in the tournament.)

We open at home against the winner of UCI (ouch) and Grand Canyon on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Q, at 5:30. The NCAA site initially showed the game on Nov. 17, football big game day, but apparently that changed, according to the email from Stanford Athletics announcing the game

If we get past that, we likely play the #8 seed, St. Mary's, and presumably at St. Mary's, which could be a match we could go to. The other seeds on our part of the bracket are #1 Wake Forest, and #16 Syracuse. So, a win at home, a win near home at St. Mary's, a win at Wake Forest, and we're in the College Cup (at UCSB).

The men do national seeding, not seeding for each region like the women, and here are all the seeds:

Wake
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisville

North Carolina
Duke
Notre Dame
St Mary's

Stanford
Virginia
Maryland
Virginia Tech

Georgetown
UCF
Denver
Syracuse

IIRC, we've beaten four of the top five in the last few years in the tournament (everyone except Ky), without ever having a quarterfinal match at home.  Let's do it again!

We were the #1 seed in 2014 when we went out in round two to UCI, at the Q, on a golden goal.
We were the #8 seed in 2015 when we won it all.
We were the #5 seed in 2016 when we won it all.
We were the #9 seed in 2017 when we won it all.

And we're #9 again.  We did beat #8 St Mary's this year, 2-1, but it was in the first preseason match and tells us very little about that likely Round 3 match-up. If we get past the Grand Canyon/UCI (shudder) winner.
