WBB - Jones decision Monday - mbdude - 11-14-2018

Per her high school coach Sue Phillips, No. 1-ranked 2019 recruit Haley Jones (@haleyjoness19) will announce her college decision on Monday morning before school at Archbishop Mitty High. She took official visits to @UConnWBB , Notre Dame, Oregon, South Carolina and Stanford

That is interesting.  Not on the first signing day but within the one week period.

I wonder if we will learn something by watching the signing classes for the other four schools she visited.  Clearly if one of them fills up their scholarships and announces it before Monday, then we will know that Haley let them know they were no longer in the running.

If they all decide not to announce their signing classes until Monday, or if they announce a partial signing class, then we know they are still hoping for Haley.

Bob, do you have any insight into these tea leaves?

Reading the announcement carefully, it does not say that this is the complete class.  It might even be a tactic to encourage Haley by letting her read the stories of the other recruits.  So I don't necessarily think this means Haley is decided.

Now if all the other schools except one do the same thing today, then that would be pretty strong evidence.  But I'm not giving up hope!

I really don't think the Stanford announcement means anything.  I think they just send a press release with the people who are committed at that time.  If you look at the Men's team last year, several players committed after the initial "class" announcement went out.

I had read that, Bob.  We are speculating why Stanford went ahead with its announcement of 3 rather than waiting until after Haley made her announcement. 

I'm hoping (and think it plausible) that Stanford just decided to announce who it had on the first day of signing week and that Haley is still an option for us, and so our announcement of 3 has no positive or negative implications. I agree with BosCard.

Beliibi's announcement, by the way, is spectacular :)

Think about this announcement from the perspective of the three early commits. They would justifiably be put off if their announcements were somehow delayed just because someone else had decided to wait a few more days. So announcing the three now is the right thing to do.

I agree with those who don't think our announcement of the three means much.  They deserve to be announced when they signed.  If they were waiting on someone who had definitely committed I could see waiting, but waiting for someone who is not committed looks bad if they wait and Jones says no.  So better this way.  I tend to think the announcement would have implied the class was complete if it was.

I also don't think it matters much that a UConn reporter tweeted the info about when and where she will announce.  They have press who cover their team way, way, way more than most places, and their hometown press would be the ones to ask her HS coach.  So while she may well pick UConn (I have no idea) I don't think the fact that their press tweeted indicates that, not unless there are other hints I am not aware of.

I also think it may matter if she announces with some other schoolmates at the same time, a school presser, or if she is totally on her own.  On her own may (not for sure but may) indicate she enjoys the limelight in a way that UConn may be a more likely pick.  

I hope she chooses Stanford but if not, we still have a fabulous class.  All three of the newly signed players are excellent, and all have skillsets that will fit in great.  Welcome to them!

I hope you are right Chimera but I fear the ominous tone to BobK's post. It seems like he is trying to emphasize the origin of the tweeter as a hint to Jones's decision.

But I hope the delay is due to her still mulling over her decision. I'm not sure why she would wait until Monday if she's already decided

Until Monday at least, I choose to believe that Chimera is the wiser of my two WBB row mates. BobK probably doesn't disagree but he does know his WBB recruiting.

Could academic information (admissions reply, or the result of a test score) be the reason for a delay?
For instance, SAT tests taken on Nov 3  have a score release date of this Friday, which would correspond to an commitment on Monday.

If that is the case, we of course wish her the best of luck(skill) to get a high score!

Deep inside that boneyard thread (Don’t think I even knew what “boneyard” was/is, let alone imagine reading it) were several posts like this. Maybe someone here can assess the significance:

Haley jones has liked 4 posts in the last 12 hrs on twitter all regarding stanford signings and incoming freshmen all separate posts..hmmmmmmm Hannah Jump , Fran Belibi & Ash pretchel all posts about how academics played a big part.

BTW- Stanford posted announcements for its NLI commitments in women's gymnastics and water polo yesterday as well, so I suspect this is an AD-led announcement that's uniformly conducted rather than something Tara, specifically, chose to do. I agree that I wouldn't read much into it in terms of what the timing of that announcement says about Jones either way. Here's hoping her social media breadcrumbs are symbolic of her ultimate decision!
