Seems to have gotten substantially worse this afternoon, and there is a “spare the air” advisory through Friday. AQI is currently 190. Any chance it affects BiG Game or is the weather pattern supposed to change to clean the air out by then?

As of last night, weather people were saying that it ought to clear out after Friday. But it’s probably hard to be sure.

SFSU canceled classes for the rest of the week, including the weekend classes.
UCB has had AQIs above 150 for most of the week.
NCAA & Pac-12 have policies if AQI goes above 200.
As both teams have the 11/30-12/1 weekend available that might be a sensible option. It would be very tough to cancel that game on Saturday.
FWIW - Does a football game become official at some point during the game if it is called for AQI? On Pac-12 Nets last week they noted it was the 70th minute for soccer. Does football have a similar policy?

On the one hand, we’ve been told that the air will clear up Friday, something about a low (or high) pressure front blowing the smoke north into Oregon and Washington.
On the other hand, every damn day the forecast for tomorrow was supposed to be better, and that never happens, and Wednesday was the worst day since this all started, and on the purpleair website (thanks for sharing that), outdoor monitors closest to memorial stadium are over 200 (maybe 230ish).
If I sound grumpy it’s because the smoke here sucks. I live in the south bay and I am miserable. I am cooped up, I am worried about my kids, I feel achy, I have headaches, I’m coughing, and in general, I feel kind of crappy. It’s gotta be even worse on the peninsula and east bay. The communities near the fires are showing close to 500. I didn’t mind as much last weekend, but there’s been a cumulative effect for me.
Anyway, here’s hoping those winds come and blow all this junk away.
Otherwise, postponing a couple weeks sounds good to me.

I wonder how it has been affecting practice and preparation for the game?

SJSU just cancelled classes and closed the campus for Thursday and Friday. I haven't heard anything about Stanford. Things are slightly better in Palo Alto than San Jose, where the smoke piles up in the south valley. But many people are still wearing masks around town, and my eyes feel gritty.
Last I checked the weather was not expected to change until Wednesday--the day before Thanksgiving--when we are hoping for rain.

given Thanksgiving recess all of next week I doubt Stanford cancels classes for Friday

They also said last weekend it would clear up this past Monday and that didn't happen. The drive on 237 this morning looked worse than the past few days.
I for one wouldn't mind moving it to the championship game weekend. After all, wasn't it best when it was the last game of the (regular) season? It'll make it retro!

I work just off 237 in Sunnyvale on the 5th floor of a building. You cannot see the coastal foothills from our windows today and you can barely see the outline of Hangar 1 at Moffett.

Stanford, kal , Sonoma State, Dominican University and Saint Mary’s are open and holding classes today. I think, but am not sure, the College of Marin campuses are open as well.
Mills College, Foothill College, De Anza, College of San Mateo, Notre Dame de Namur & Cal State-East Bay are closed.
We live in BlackPoint, in NE Novato - the AQ started getting worse yesterday afternoon and that's continued through today. It's even worse for us than it was during last year's Tubbs/Nun's fires, which frankly blows my mind. One thing my wife and I noticed during last year's fires is that all the nesting and migratory birds in our area literally disappeared until the AQ cleared up some, even the (d**ned) wild turkeys - same this year, the silence is kind of creepy

What does the game mean besides the rivalry. Bowl position? WGAF? Smoke in West Marin is as bad today as the first fire day.
Cancel it.

Even if you factor in it helping determine bowl position, they can still play on 12/1 and that will be before all of the bowl selection occurs. A la Army/Navy and some others.

There is more smoke on Inverness Ridge than there was two hours ago. Almost as much as Day One of the Napa and Santa Rosa fires a year ago. Visibility down to about 250 meters.

Cal will post updates here
https://calbears.com/news/2018/11/15/athletics-news-air-quality-update.aspx
last updated at 10:53am today which says in part
Cal Athletics has been following AQI levels since the wildfires started last week. As of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, we have not seen AQI numbers that require postponement of Saturday's Big Game. We will continue to monitor and will provide updates through the scheduled kickoff.
and here's the pac-12 policy
https://calbears.com/documents/2018/11/15/2018_9_27_Air_Quality_Index_AQI_Guidelines_Amended_V1_Clean_Final_PDF_Pac_12.pdf
which says in part
If there is substantive evidence that the AQI will remain consistently above 200 for the majority of a competition, that competition should be postponed, cancelled, rescheduled or relocated

AQI has been in the 190's throughout the Bay Area today, and no rain is expected until Wednesday.

Looking at this air quality site:
https://www.purpleair.com/map#14.3/37.86961/-122.26153
the air quality around the Berkeley stadium has registered anywhere from 50-280, depending upon which sensor you pick. Some censors on the Berkeley campus are way, way above 200.
Here in Palo Alto most of the sensors on this site are above 200.
In Sacramento most of the sensors are above 300 and one or two above 400.
Now, I don't know if this "PurpleAir" site is more or less reliable than any other, but I can easily see why even an indoor game at Sacramento would be cancelled.
Does anyone know how good the air filtration system is at Maples? I'm wondering about tonight's game and the Ohio State game for Sunday.

Stanford unlike sac state isn’t closed. Game on I suspect
At Stanford by soccer stadium per a tweet it’s 299
Mitty just cancelled their WBB game
