NCAA games this weekend -
Austroturf - 11-17-2018
Surprisingly, the Citadel is tied with Alabama 7-7 with 7 minutes and change to go in the first half.
Maryland is up on Ohio State 17-3 in the 2nd quarter and driving again.
Citadel and Alabama tied 10-10 at the half.
Maryland up 24-10 on the Buckeyes. Ohio State run defense is looking pitiful. The Terrapins are running all over their front seven.
It is likely Nick Saban is ripping into his team during the break. And Urban Meyer will get a chance to do the same thing in about 6 minutes.

interestingly, ESPN's Win Probability tracker is at 96.9% for Alabama (down from 99.9% at the beginning of the game). So it still doesn't believe that The Citadel has a chance in heck

That is interesting. I guess it's the kind of win probability you would assign to Bama at the beginning of a 0-0 game. 10-10 is the same differential, just with 30 minutes to play. And ESPN fully expects the Tide to dominate this second half.

Except that if a team can stay even with Alabama through half a football game, that's useful information to understand the odds that they could win overall. And if they can stay even through the half, it substantially improves the likelihood they could outscore Alabama over 30 minutes. Put it this way - if you're Vegas, do you offer the same payoff on a Citadel victory now as you did before the game? I sure as heck wouldn't.

The Citadel recovered a fumble from Alabama on the opening kick-off of the second half and had a chance to take a 13-10 lead, but muffed the FG.

Guess that win probability was pretty accurate. After the 3rd quarter, the Tide is leading 37-10.
CU Buffs up over Utah 7-0 in a snowstorm at Folsom Field. Looks just miserable there.

And don't overlook Yale vs. Harvard. Harvard is up by 4 w/ about 3 minutes left in the 3rd. Two 5-4 teams battling in an ancient rivalry. ;-)
And they're playing in Fenway!

Irish up 10-0 vs. Syracuse in the first quarter (Fenway Park). Utah & Colorado tied at 7 apiece at the half. Maryland is up a TD over the Buckeyes with 7+ left in the game (38-31). I suspect the Buckeyes will probably pull this one out in the end. Alabama ended up destroying the Citadel.

There are TWO games being played at Fenway simultaneously?
No. I think notre dame/syracuse is at Yankee Stadium.

Yes, Yankee stadium. My bad.

Scott Frost's Huskers have won 4 of their last 5 after starting the season 0-6. Beat Michigan State today 9-6. Good coaching to keep the team focused? I think so.

Yes, Michigan State. What a disaster for the Spartans. Dantonio may be feeling some heat.
And sadly, Urban Meyer and his Buckeyes dodge a bullet vs. the Maryland Terrapins. The Terps scored in OT to move within one point of the Buckeyes at 52-51, then went for the two-point conversion and failed. I guess this was the Maryland coach acknowledging that his defense was toast; and he needed to win or lose right there. Urban's CFP hopes are still alive. Hope Harbs finally gets the monkey off his back next week and gets the W in Columbus.
In the snow-bowl, Utah is dismantling Colorado 27-7. Wow, what a decline of fortunes for the Buffs this season. Utah is lacking Moss and Huntley and may still win the South.
UCLA is up on USC 7-3 early in the game.

Chryst is currently under center in the Vols game against Missouri, which I assume means Guarantano is injured. Chryst's play had been pretty solid throughout the first half; but trailing 19-10 toward the end of the 2nd half and driving for a TD, he threw an interception that Missouri returned to the Tennessee ten yard line. Instead of trailing 19-17 at the half, the Vols will now go into the locker room down 26-10. I guess Keller just hasn't had the breaks in his college career. Will he produce a miracle comeback in the 2nd half? Don't hold your breath.

Terps blew that last play. QB and receiver not on same page. QB rolls, receiver is open in the end zone but standing still. QB leads him, thinking receiver will move. Wrong decision.

Yes, I saw that play. It was there for the taking, but the QB overthought the situation and led the receiver to a place he was not moving to.
Meanwhile, the Dawgs are just destroying the Beavers 28-3 in the first quarter, while Harbaugh is struggling against the Hoosiers.

If Michigan loses to Indiana, we will look back on Michigan's last drive before half. Had ball 1st and Goal inside the 10 without any timeouts. Snapped the ball and threw to a TE tackled inbounds. Refs couldn't spot the ball in time for Michigan to spike it and they didn't score, trailing Indiana 17-15 at halftime.

Thanks for that insight. My stream for Michigan-Indiana wasn't working at that point in the game, and I was wondering how Harbaugh, with first and goal at the three, wouldn't at least get a FG out of that drive. Guess they had burned all their TOs and couldn't stop the clock.
Notre Dame started slowly, but just steamrolled Syracuse 36-3 at Yankee stadium. It would have been a shut-out, but Syracuse was driving in the final minutes of the game and decided to kick a FG with ten seconds left. I guess you can chalk that up to game-time experience for the kicker. Yes, there might be a game in which that kick with ten seconds to go either wins or ties the contest; and practice is always crucial. Otherwise, why risk anything at that stage (trailing 36-0)? Just take a knee and move on.
Syracuse was ranked #12 in the nation; but nobody can convince me the Orangemen even remotely deserved that lofty position in the rankings. Their starting QB (Dungey) left early with an injury; but even with him in the game, Syracuse looked totally overmatched. Because of the general chaos in college football this year, there are plenty of teams in the top 25 that look undeserving of their positions. Utah State (#23) needed some last minute heroics to escape with a 29-24 victory over 3-8 Colorado State.

Syracuse made Stanford look very good by comparison against Notre Dame. But, they dd play Clemson toe-to-toe for most of the game.
