I'd liked him, but the domestic violence imbroglio a couple years back really left a sour taste in my mouth. Anyway it seems he's being fired for performance.

Yeah, unfortunate that coaches can get away with so much when they are winning, but when losing, not so much. Ohio State having a few subpar seasons would accomplish what charges of covering up domestic abuse would not.

There figures to be a large number of Power 5 coaches joining McIntyre on the coaching carousel. UNC, USC, Rutgers, Illinois, Texas Tech, among others, could all be looking for new HC at the end of the season. Louisville, Kansas have already fired their HC, along with Colorado.

Fedora and Lovie aren't going anywhere unless UNC and Illinois can come up with A LOT of money. UNC would have to pay $12.2 million to buy out Fedora while Illinois would owe Lovie $12.6 million. Not saying it won't happen, heck Colorado owes MacIntyre $10.3 million, but that's a ton of money to pay someone not to work for you.

I just realized a stat that really puts both Stanford and David Shaw's success in perspective: since the PAC-10 became the PAC-12 in 2011, each South Division team has won the Division title at least once (with Utah having a lock on it for this year), and if USC lets Helton go, every single coach that has led their team to the division title will have subsequently been let go by that team. That's a lot of dismissals for a lot of division-winning coaches. If I'm Kyle Whittingham, am I saying prayers to the woofing gods?
BTW: Shaw and Whittingham are also the only remaining coaches from that first PAC-12 season in 2011. Just saying - I know 8-5 seasons are now disappointments for us, but literally every school in the PAC-12 has to envy our stability and persistent success.

Any recruits Stanford can poach? Their QB looked to have some academic oriented offers. Should also be looking at USC's recruit list.

UNC has Jordan Brand/Nike money. And financial success in AD's these days is increasingly tied to the success (or potential lackthereof) of the football team. Louisville paid $14 million for Bobby Petrino to leave, so those buyouts wouldn't even be the highest of the cycle. If Colorado, a relatively small AD, can pay $10+ million to MacIntyre to go away, UNC and Illinois can afford $12+ million. I mean, isn't Helton's buyout $15+ million, and USC will potentially eat that cost in a heartbeat, even after paying the money for the Coliseum renovations.

Remains to be seen. USC has no president ATM. They actually do have serious financial issues throughout the entire University. It is not clear they have the money, and it is also even less clear that the rest of the University would sit still for spending money to make a coach go away while the rest of the University is undergoing serious cuts. I get it that getting rid of the coach may increase their total income, but it would be a hard sell to the people getting squeezed already.

Hell, Kansas has already reportedly hired the next guy, some coaching has-been named Les Miles. Given what happened to Charlie Weiss in going from Notre Dame to Kansas, I’m not sure this is a good move for Miles.

If you are 65, have been out of coaching for 2+ years, likely would not get another job after this regardless of how things go, and are desperate for one last head coaching opportunity in your career...

Well, perhaps it takes a wizard to win there.

Actually, when Dorothy is ready to go back she asks, “Toto too?” when told all that she has to do is click her heels in the ruby slippers.
And Ingrid Bergman never said, “Play it again Sam.”
Calvera never says, “Why did you come back.” But Brit says, “You lost.”
