W Soccer final four set - muiron - 11-24-2018

(also on Sears Board - in case anyone reads both I want to save them some time/irritation).

Our side the bracket got set yesterday: #1 seed Stanford v #1 seed Florida State (ACC champ).

On the other side, Georgetown, with our alum Kyra Carusa, beat Baylor 3-0. Kyra had one goal and two assists.

And, in the match of the quarters, UNC and UCLA tied, 2-2, with UNC advancing on PKs, 5-3. They were tied in PKs at 3-3 so UNC made its fourth, UCLA missed its fourth, and UNC made its fifth to clinch.  I have only the most scanty information on this match but UNC scored in the 3rd and 51st. Haley Mace scored for UCLA in th 57th and 58th - vaguely reminescent of last year's championship against us, including that they came up short.

All four #1 seeds advanced, three of them beating their region's #2 (all except Georgetown which beat unseeded Penn State).

One Big East team, one Pac 12 team, two ACC teams - but SO close to two Pac 12 and one ACC. I don't think the Pac 12 got fair seedings - UCLA, the runner up last year, could easily have been a #1 seed instead of Georgetown or Florida State. But, more glaringly, no way USC should have been a #4 seed.  Of course, either way they would have had to beat Florida State one game later ... but a 1-1 "loss" in OT stings. It's two PK shootouts from 3 Pac 12 teams in the College Cup. (And Santa Clara also got bounced in PKs.)

Two wins from another championship!

Go Card!

hate UNC. the minutes I watched, they were playing their super-aggressive, physical, take-out-the player style, and the ref was letting them. Don't think Georgetown will beat them either.

I'd be happy to play UNC again - we beat them before even though they vilely broke Tierna's leg.

But first - Florida State.
