This is purely for clicks. Rankings mean nothing until much later in the season. Don't give them the attention (even if negative) - it's what they want.

There's an embedded tweet on that page with the tag line "Here is everything you need to know."
Thus, one can conclude that the NCAA does not think you need to know how it actually works.
It does seem to be a case of "throw everything you can think of into the pot, that must make it better".
