No. Jim Harbaugh was friends with several recruits (while they were still recruits) in years past.

I wouldn't make too much of this. Kids are prone to friend just about anyone they know, which is how so many accrue such big friends lists. Odenigbo may have no intention of committing. After all, Todd Peat was friends on Facebook with Harbaugh, IIRC.

WiM, thanks for the insight. Yes, I thought it was an indication of commitment, buy you're right. One of my nephews has several thousand friends.

As for Garvin's question, here's a link to the NCAA's page on social networking. http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/NCAA/Issues/Recruiting/Social+Media+and+Recruiting

That statement could be damaging to the morale of the current team, especially if the current receivers were not graduating. However, this wouldn't: "Joe Blow is such a great receiver. He's going to leave a real void when he graduates!"

Also, a lot of it is up for interpretation. For instance, Shaw tweeted that we got an outstanding OL the day we got a verbal from one. He did not mention the recruit, his high school, or even his state, and many observers claim it wasn't veiled enough. I thought that was silly because every team recruits offensive linemen.
