Uh-oh. Creeping Nike/Oregon chameleonism... - Redrum - 07-21-2011

arrives at the Farm.  If you liked the Oregon NC game uniforms, or their uniform-of-the-week fashion panoply, you're gonna love the Stanford/ the University of South Bend  unis.  Not the University of South Bend.  They're still outraged that the college game switched from leather helmets.  So that leaves...Stanford to be the runway models.  Stay tuned.  It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be warmed over Eugene chic.

If we have to wear black, I like the idea of these:

I still prefer the cardinal, though.

The helmet will almost certainly be a color other than white.  Nike's big feature to date has been to modernize the helmets to compliment these special uniforms.

The uniforms in the feature look somewhat like the colors those teams wear routinely, though Shaw seemed to imply non-traditional colors would appear at least once in 2011.  Almost certainly that Shaw hint was a reference to this technology.

The irony of the uniforms is that they seem to feature technology and fabrics to help the players avoid overheating.  And yet, the Stanford team will wear these uniforms in a night game in late November.

I suspect the technology would be most helpful for that early September game against Arizona.  And as long as the uniforms are not black, the San Jose State day game would have been a good place to try them too.  Ah, but this is not about Stanford, this is about Nike.  And Nike only wants the gear featured on big time, prime time games.

I hope Stanford gets something above and beyond the trendy uniforms in this deal.

IIRC black unis have been less than lucky for all Stanford teams that wear them.

Yeah, that's what Wake Forest said.

If Phil Knight wants to make a donation to the football team, I'm sure we'd be happy to join Oregon as beneficiaries of his generosity.  Fewer ethical mishaps with this school, that's for sure.

Mr. Knight does have a Stanford diploma handing on his wall. (MBA). His connections to the university clearly aren't as deep as those to Eugene, but he has certainly been generous. ('Knight Management Center', for example.)
