Positive Coaching Alliance - Bruce Wang - 03-27-2019

I'm coaching my daughter's soccer team this season.  Actually the assistant to the assistant to the travelling secretary (since the head coach and assistant coach both played in college and my organized soccer career ended in 8th grade).  Anyhow I attended a coaching training session last night with a presentation from the representative for the Positive Coaching Alliance, which I had vaguely heard of.  What I didn't know is that it came out of Stanford!

I have had several friends and a few acquaintances who had varying levels of exposure to the principles of PCA.  It was my casual assumption that the formal process/program of PCA derived from the book, The Inner Game of Tennis by Tim Gallwey and its various extensions.  Whether or not that is the case, those books by Gallwey had a transformative effect on the way in which I teach golf.  Of course, I have learned as an old dog that a positive outlook greatly enhances the quality of my days.  As Colin Powell says in his daily affirmations, "Optimism is a force multiplier".

I became a Little League President in Sunnyavle in 1998 and one of the first things I did was hire Jim Thompson and his Positive Coaching Alliance. The coaches of the girls thought it a great idea, the coaches of the boy, with a why? After the seesion 90% or more raved about it. Jim helped our league termendously.

Jim presented to the Willow Glen NJB (National Junior Basketball) coaches.  Thought it was a great program.
