Not sure if any of you are statistics geeks - utah1977 - 08-07-2011
One of our Utefans.net members put together a PAC12 Statistics website. He'll be compiling the data each week after the season starts.

Thanks, UtahUtes for letting us know. Looks like a very interesting site to play with.
Folks - this is a terrific site! This guy has spent a LOT OF TIME building tools to pull tons of data and present them in very meaningful ways with charts and graphs that I LOVE! It'll point out some areas of strength and weakness that we might want to discuss. Like our punt coverage sucked - worst in Pac-12 and although it seemed to me that our kickoff coverage was much better last year - it wasn't that good.

Very interesting stuff. I have bookmarked it and will be checking back once the season gets going. Thanks.

We didn't get much in-game practice.

Stanford's punt coverage might not have been as bad as it appears from the stats. Stanford punted just 32 times last season. Only 10 of those punts were returned, the fewest punt returns allowed by any conference team. In the opening game against Sacramento St., Stanford allowed a 70 yard punt return for a TD. Over the rest of the season, the other 9 punt returns against Stanford covered a combined total of 60 yards, an average of 6.7 yards per return. The 70 yard return by Sac St. pushed the average punt return allowed up to 13.0 yards per return.
Except for the one long return, Stanford's punt coverage was OK. Because the total number of returns was small, the one long return made a big difference in the average.

That is great insight!
