People seem to be making the critical error of assuming the 59ers will be mediocre-to-average. This is certainly possible, but it also seems possible that the 59ers will be actively awful this year. They're losing their best players, they lost their quarterback and replaced him with a guy who couldn't do much against MAC competition, and all of their purported solutions are young players. They have to get used to a new home stadium. This is a combination that produces a substantial risk of failure.

Could end up being Stanford if the defense doesn't come together. Still, I think we'll be OK. I like USC - after all the drama of the NCAA investigations I think these guys are in for a letdown.
USC. Not dead yet - Redrum - 08-08-2011
The damage of the sanctions might not be felt for another two years. They have enough talent currently on the roster that IF they are well coached, they can contend for the P12 South championship. They haven't really been damaged yet when it comes to putting talented players on the field. What eventually might hurt them is not having elite back-up players and having the first stringers practicing against not-so-good players over time.
Psychologically, I think they have a healthy Us-Against-The-World mentality this season. It will take some key losses for cracks to appear. That might not happen until next season or the season after. Then, they might get a boost from being bowl eligible again. I hope they collapse both mentally and physically, but there's no guarantee. Best case scenario, USC loses some key games this season, key people leave early, it's apparent that Kiffin can't hold the thing together and then they bring in limited classes with some (for them) Plan B players and those Plan B players start to be a significant part of the roster. Here's hoping.

Definitely Colorado. They could easily go 0-13 this season. The new coach is a wannabe gang leader out of touch with reality. They have D-II athletes with no experience at corner, and won't be able to stop the pass. Ted Miller has been hyping CU as a way to get more readers for his blog. These guys lost 52-7 to Cal last year. And they lost their best five players on defense to graduation or prison. I stumbled onto an indoor practice and thought it was the soccer team. Seriously. So, CU is the most overrated team in the conference.

I would say CU is not overrated...they are exactly the doormats that the Big 12 thought they were. Utah is a wildcard--still sort of under the radar with big aspirations from the partisan faithful. Stanford just actually might be the ones to have to live up to lofty expectations while testing a new OL and DL. I couldn't vote Stanford though, so I went with u$c, which is a perennially overrated team and will undoubtedly be so again after Minnesota and Syracuse this year. If they lose to Utah, this does not hold true.

I would say Oregon because of all of this media hoop-fla, Oregon is loosing its best receiver and their CB who was caught speeding at 118 MPH will be suspended for at least one game.
I believe Stanford will prove ourselves because this game is number 1 at home and number 2 it is later on in the season, unlike last year. Last year at the end of the season, Stanford was undoubtedly the best team in the nation.

I would have said Stanford, but now they are favored by less than 4 TDs against SJSU. While they will be much improved, that's quite an adjustment from last season
