It's easy to laugh at the stereotypes.  But the reality is that big-time sports monetize the athletes with life-changing money for everyone involved.  I can see that a kid will trust family more than complete strangers, no matter how "professional" they may be.  And if someone's gonna sponge off the athlete, I suppose it's better that it be family than someone else.  Lavar Ball might be a jerk, but his sons probably appreciate him.  

Granted, some of the family enterprises might be less competent than those run by outsiders.  

Now it's a whole different issue when we talk about snowplow/helicopter parenting at the pre-money stage.  An extreme example being the brawl between parents at a 7-yr-old Little League game recently.
