Six Word Story: Big Game 1990 - Hank 91 - 07-15-2019

I posted this on Twitter earlier, but it didn't gain much traction, probably because most Twitter users weren't born in 1990. Anyway, here's the game. Put your memories of that game into a six-word story. Like this: Bears go home crying without Axe. Or this: Please clear field; game not over.

On your mark... get set... Go!

Revenge

Enough said.

RE: Six Word Story: Big Game 1990 - Spiny_Norman - 07-15-2019

I replied on Twitter, but my 6 words or less probably should be Thank You, Mike Harrison. Mike talked me into coming up the game. My life is the better for it.

GAME'S NOT OVER

and

Weenies go bedlam to silence quickly

RE: Six Word Story: Big Game 1990 - GK3 - 07-16-2019

The best trip I ever made to a Big Game.  The walk back to the car was so much fun!

Here's 10...

1: Milburn with a record performance: 379.
2: Best: salvific Palumbis/McCaffrey post-out.
3: Green has cajones; goes for win.
4: Two-point conversion intecepted; hope lost?
5: "Please clear the field"; fans penalized.
6: Onside-kick recovered; hope, too, faintly.
7: Roughing the passer; cheater Bears.
8: John Hopkins practices shanks into stands.
9: As time expires, dead solid perfect.
10: Revenge of The Play, except legit.

-m.

Good, but roughing the PASSER.

RE: Six Word Story: Big Game 1990 - Snorlax94 - 07-16-2019

Onside kick. Miracle ending. Stanford wins.
(Yes I was there Frosh year)
For 1991: Doesn’t Treggs live in Palo Alto?

What I said in the stands as it happened works for me.

They're on the field.  It's possible.

....

Explanation for those around me at the time...

That celebration will be a 15 yard penalty.
Get the onside kick and the ball will already be in FG range.
This can be done.
They just need to recover the kick.

FWIW - The roughing the passer was a helpful penalty, but kicks of the pre-penalty length on that type of artificial turf were rather common in that era.

I got to enjoy the walk down the hill to the BART station and then a VERY quiet BART ride. I just stood and smiled at all the Weenies.

Loudest silence ever. The play revenged.

Maybe the most enjoyable game I've ever seen - and it was great even before the amazing ending. Great games for Milburn and their guy, White (?); a fight between the teams before the game started, back and forth play, and the most marvelous sunset view over the Bay from the top of Memorial Stadium after the victory.

True story - my wife called the ending. Palumbis had just started our last gasp drive and I asked "so, if we make it, Denny goes for two, right?" And she said - "Come on, I've been watching Stanford football for six years now. We'll make the touchdown, miss the two point conversion, recover an onside kick, and make the winning field goal." From her lips.....

Yes, in those days we seldom won a game easily except maybe the ones we were supposed to lose.
