Forbes' is out with its latest survey of best colleges which "focuses on educational outcomes..."  Stanford is 5 (Harvard is 6, Yale 14, UND 18, Duke 22).  No other Pac-12 school is ranked in the top 50.  Including UC-East Bay (a further sign of their diminished reputation).  Top ten below:

1.    Williams
2.    Princeton
3.  West Point
4.  Amherst
5,  Stanford
6.  Harvard
7.  Haverford
8.  U/Chicago
9.  MIT
10.  Air Force

Obviously a comparison of many fruits (not just apples and oranges).

They also look at MBA programs based on the return on investment (loss of income and tuition and other factors).  Stanford GSB shows pre-MBA salary of $77,000 and post as $215,000

Funny, 1 hr. to the north & east the reaction is different - Redrum - 08-10-2011

On the Cal Insider board they gave this one a rough ride already.  Dubbed it Capitalist tool sneers at Kal degree but loves the school I wish I had gotten into.  However, in the thread, they seemed more upset that Santa Clara U.  beat them out.  Kal was #70.

I don't know what an educational outsome is, or even presumably an educational outcome, or how Forbes would measure one; but I do know that Berkeley is north and west of Palo Alto.  I got that educational outcome somewhere, most likely by using California State Plane Coordinates for the past 25 years or so.

Who don't they give a rough ride to? They're even mean to one another!

I've been oblivious to this for 40 years. Can't wait to try to win some free drinks in out of state sports bars.

Thanks jacketree!

So unclechuck,

If that bar fight gets heated, you better be armed:

Hoover Tower N37d 25' 39"  W122d 10' 00"

Campanille N37d 52' 25" W122d 15' 15"

Berkeley is about 5 minutes and 15 seconds to the left of Stanford.

Garvin - that may be spot on for Bay Area watering holes but would likely get my ass kicked most elsewhere.

jacketree - will find a site I can pull up on the cell to show that info. That would nail it. My evil plan takes shape. Now to work on my opening pitch.

Garvin, now you've got me thinking of a campus proximal coffeehouse version of this grift; how about a few more data points? I'm visualizing use of hand gestures to accompany my narrative, and could compress the scale enough that I could still encompass Reagan by extending my right arm out completely. Two more would seem sufficient.

Any suggestions that might be universal for say, Davis, CA; Boston, Austin?

and SMU would be LBJ and William and Mary would be J. Edgar Hoover

Do you have the link to the UC East Bay Insider Board? - Mick - 08-20-2011

Here's another reason for Kal alums to be so cranky.  Perhaps the fact that they scored below both Stanford and Santa Clara on starting salaries and mid career salaries.  At least they were ahead of USC.
