Although sadly this news article is from the Florida State site, and focuses on "Former Seminole Jace Pardon", the gold medal in the Pan Am games is notable because Pardon is the partner of Karissa Cook (WVB class of 2012).

;)
Does beg the question of why we've been also-rans in sand volleyball, despite having one player dominate the sport for over a decade (to be fair she played for us before sand was a thing) and another one moving into the elites. Clearly our indoor volleyball players can play on the beach effectively, but we haven't found a formula that works while they are still enrolled.

It’s such a new sport. Who are the top beach American players under 25?

Quote:Beach volleyball most likely originated in 1915 on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, while the modern two-player game originated in Santa Monica, California. It has been an Olympic sport since the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Or did you mean new to NCAA? Div I since 2015, right? But in 4 years, Stanford has never made the 8-team tournament.

Speaking of Pan Am games, former Stanford volleyball player and brother of Karissa Cook, Brian Cook played on the 2015 Pan Am team. Born in Monterey, grew up in Santa Cruz. Played club volleyball with my son. Amazing player. Four time All America at Stanford, IIRC.

Cook is a very strong beach player, though he's currently out due to surgery. Also played professionally in Europe, Italy I think.
