<p>Really good article on Doug’s <span style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.301961); -webkit-text-size-adjust: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; display: inline !important; float: none;">decision to retire from Football and the&nbsp;</span>maturation that gave him&nbsp;perspective and helped him&nbsp;reflect&nbsp;on life and what’s important to him.&nbsp;</p><p>He and Andrew are mature and wise beyond their years.</p><p><a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27472889/no-second-thoughts-retiring">Ex-WR Baldwin: No second thoughts over retiring</a><br></p>

<p>I'm surprised to read this, as when Seattle moved to release Baldwin in May it seemed wholly the team's decision, though I did find one article that cited Carroll and the Seattle GM as stating Baldwin was contemplating retirement.</p><p><br></p><p>

<br></p><p><br></p><p>Baldwin was probably my second-favorite Stanford player in the NFL. I appreciated his honesty and tenacity. He is an undersized guy (by NFL standards) who wasn't&nbsp;even invited to the NFL combine.</p><p></p>

<p>I really like Baldwin, too. Will miss him. His fire and skill and articulacy were great. Glad to have him represent Stanford.</p><p>I thought he was an ass, though, for mimicking taking a dookie with the football after scoring a touchdown in the Super Bowl.</p><p>-m.</p>

From the article
Quote:“I think the most important aspect of all of this is that I can look back, when I'm 60 years old, I can look back and say that I did everything possible to make sure that I was able to pick up my children when they were born, that I was able to run around with them when they were kids and to be there for them cognitively when they're older and they need their father to be not just a father but their friend as they navigate the world. Those things have been vitally important to me, and those things take precedence over everything else now."

Damn, I like our players. I’m also glad that with kids and age, my fanatical love of Stanford football is starting to wane. It’s a blast, but I know I also contribute to the problem by being a fan.

I feel the same way.
