<p>Okay, well, that's a different way to open the season.</p><p><br></p><p>Stanford got out of the blocks early against the Nittanys, with a set-piece goal in the 11th minute from Richmond and a PK by Beason two minutes later. Then put the hammer down in the second half with corner kick conversions from Wehan and Bouda, and a late poach by Gabe Segal to complete the scoring.</p><p>Amazing balanced scoring, great service from Waldeck on the corners. Not sure about the seeing out the game strategy - they got called for 5 fouls and an yellow in the last 10 minutes leading by 4 or 5 goals. But at that point, the bench was well-represented.</p><p>Nice when your backup GK gets good minutes in the first game of the season against a major conference opponent. Also good, as Thomas has an upcoming callup with the U23s for Sept 1-10. I wonder if they'll let him play in the critical game at #3 Akron on Monday before reporting.</p><p>VG</p><p><br></p><p>P.S. The Akron game is supposed to be live on ESPN+ at 4:00 pm PT.</p><p><br></p>
