Next starts now (NW game thread) - BostonCard - 08-31-2019
Ok, next actually starts in an hour, but I’m at the stadium. Weather is delightful, but will be in the upper 80’s for most of the game, especially in the wok. Judging by crowds outside of the game an hour ahead of time, attendance looks to be decent.

I am extrapolating (perhaps stupidly) from the fact that at least 7 STHs from our tailgate (including me) are out of town and won't be attending. I was expecting a dismal turnout. Hope you're right and I'm wrong.

Family fun zone is more filled up an hour pre-game than I’m used to, but that may be because the game time lends itself to lots of families (kids are free today as well), and it is before AYSO season starts.

Outsider fan should be happy. Most of Costello’s throws are coming off play action. The problem is I don’t think he’s good at selling the action. It’s sort of a pro form fake hand off and nobody is fooled.

Defense is holding up well.

Probably a bit of wishful thinking on my part and lots of people in the concourse due to the heat, but stands are closer to empty than “decent attendance”.

</p><p><br></p><p>Hopefully that's just adrenaline. </p><p><br></p><p>I thought the blocking looked very good against Northwestern's front seven, which are supposedly superb, returning two strong DTs, two terrific DEs and their leading tackler among three excellent linebackers. It's the class of their team.</p>

Well a pretty strong performance in the first quarter. Except of course for the score. 112-12 yards. Yeah, 12 yards for NW.
Two holding penalties have hurt. The second one negated a long run and put is in second and 15.
That being said, the offensive line has opened holes for our running backs and kept the pocket pretty clean for Costello.
