I informed the staff of this on Friday, it started in PMs has cropped up on the main site. The main difference seems to be using the quick reply vs the full reply. IIRC if you do the full reply and hit "View source", then delete all the garbage that appears, your post will look fine. Testing that now...
Quick edit: and that post was clean. This is a quick edit, is it bad?
Full edit: this is a full edit, without viewing source...
Full edit with viewing source: yeah all the crap came back. So basically the board is adding HTML but then not interpreting it, you can use the "view source" button to strip it out.
Final edit: this post seems kind of crazy without being able to see what I was doing, so this is what I learned:
If you want to compose a reply that doesn't look terrible right now, click the "view source" button OR use the quick reply box (which may only be visible on mobile).
If you want to clean up a post that has the junk, edit it and click the "view source" button.

I inadvertently made this worse today by trying to disable the " HTML in posts " plugin that's responsible (at Yvonne's suggestion). There seems to be a bug in the disable/enable function, so disabling made things much worse, and reenabling didn't bring things back to the previous state.
I suspect the board software needs a reinstall without going anywhere near that plugin. After that, you'll probably still see HTML gunk in old posts made while the plugin was present, but older and newer posts should be okay.
Unfortunately I don't have experience with installing MyBB.

Mick, I suspect that’s because Word contained about 9,000 characters worth of formatting code that came along with your text. The easiest workaround is to use the plain text editor (far right button). Then when you paste your word post, it will paste without the formatting.
