Great moments in Stanford-USC history - 2000 - Spiny_Norman - 09-04-2019

As we get ready for another game in what has become the Pac 12's best series, let's reflect back on a different year when Stanford had to rely on a talented backup QB to pull out a victory over the Trojans. The setting - Stanford Stadium, homecoming weekend, October 21, 2000. USC leads 30-26 with 4 minutes to play. Stanford's offense led by QB Randy Fasani will have one last chance for the winning score starting at about the 50 yard line. Let's go to Keith Jackson for the play by play.

Greatest pyrrhic victory in Stanford-USC history, as that game ushered in the Pete Carrol era, which was decidedly not enjoyable for this fan.

Was that Ed Orgeron on the SC sidelines?

That was really fun!

I'd forgotten that Chris Lewis came in for an injured Randy Fasani on that last drive, and that a delay of game and false start made it fourth and 20 when Lewis threw the touchdown.

Quote of the game:
"There's a flag down Keith"
"Of course there is... for celebration!"

I did not remember that game. That was fun, coming down to 4th down with 4 seconds left and a last-minute (literally) quarterback change. Couldn't draw it up for more drama.
